According to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel has stepped down as defensive coordinator and has promoted linebackers coach Gary Gibbs to the position.

This news is coming out of Arrowhead right now and we don’t have a lot of details yet. Some crazy (desperate) changes are going on right now. We’ve also heard that the Chiefs have waived Stanford Routt.

There have been calls for Crennel to step away from coordinating the defense since the Chiefs started sucking really hard earlier this season.

Crennel appears to be making one last effort to shake things up. Unfortunately, it appears as though he is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. It is doubtful that anything can save the Chiefs now.

And if promoting Gibbs does help, it just makes Crennel look even worse for stubbornly not making the move when it could have made a difference.
