Chiefs vs. Raiders: Picking The Game

The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Oakland Raiders this Sunday in a battle of the AFC West bottom-feeders.

Then again, the Raiders, even at 2-4, are just a game out of first place in the AFC West. The Chiefs, at 1-5, are miraculously only two games out.

Don’t thank me, thank the mediocre San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos.

But for the Raiders and Chiefs, talk of division championships is a bit premature. Right now, both of these teams are just trying to string together a couple of wins.

Thankfully for both teams, one of them is guaranteed to leave Arrowhead with an extra mark in the win column.

Who is going to be? Let’s take a look at what NFL experts around the web are saying.

Four of ESPN’s experts picked the Chiefs including Mort, Adam Shefter, Jaws and Mike Ditka. We like them all this week too!

The other eight ESPn experts picked the Raiders. As did the fans in the pick’em leagues.

Accuscore also picked the Raiders but it is predicting a close game. The Raiders won in 52% of the simulations by an average score of 19.3 to 18.6. Three TDs appears to be the magic number here for the Chiefs.

CBS Sports:

Over at CBS Sports they are picking against the spread. The Chiefs are the dogs, getting 1.5. All eight experts took the Raiders.

The guys over at are still high on the Chiefs. Three of the five experts picked KC to win it.

The three-expert panel over at went 2-1 for the Raiders.

The Chiefs defense is built to protect a lead, one thing they haven’t seen this season. With one game under his belt, Brady Quinn could lead the Chiefs to an early lead mostly because the Raiders passing defense is 22nd in the league and can be had. If the Chiefs can establish the passing game, the running game should open up, even though Oakland ranks 12th against the run. It may all come down to who wins or loses the penalties game. After a bye week you’d hope the Chiefs have fixed that bug-a-boo.

    Chief 28, Raiders 17

In their last game, the Chiefs faced a team (Bucs), that were ranked, I believe, 30th against the pass. And that was before Aquib Talib was penalized four games. So now, how do they somehow do better against a Raider defense that, on paper, has a better pass defense. The Chiefs need not only a better game in all phases, offense, defense and special teams, but they need a way better game from their coaching staff. This team just has too much talent to be 1-5. I know we keep saying that week after week, but have we maybe over-valued that talent level? Even if the Chiefs play good enough to win, I am really not sure what it tells us. If it is a close game, as it probably will be, and if we play just good enough, where do they go from there? Does a 17-14 win against a bad Raider team at Arrowhead give us anything to look forward to? I believe it just gives Crennel and Pioli a little more rope. The team still won’t have any direction. Really, does 2-5 look a whole lot better that 1-6? Not from my perspective.

i see a very sloppy game this week. i see the game going back and forth, penalty flags flying everywhere, the chiefs not leading but keeping the game tied, and it’ll be ryan succop to kick the winning field in the final seconds of the game and get the chiefs their second win of the season in a hard fought battle over the raiders 16 – 13.

Chiefs 24 Raiders 10: Raiders with a TD and a FG, Ryan Succup wins with 8 56 yard field goals. Nah I’m just playin, but seriously: Can We send Ryan a leg warmer or something? He’s going to be busy Sunday…

Read it, interesting to say the least. One issue, you know the Chiefs are in their 4 season of a 3-4 defense and still do not have 11 players who can give their best effort in the 3-4. Could be an problem, has all season so far.

  • tm1946

Cannot pick the Chiefs to win a game until they have won at least one game with the offense, defense, and special teams showing up together. Just not good bet.
Gamblers are giving the Chiefs with 1.5 home advantage, normally homefield is worth 3.
Think the Chiefs can “struggle” and pull out a win but no money on sunday’s game.

No problem picking this one. Carson Palmer 2Td’s/2Int’s; Fadden’ 75yards with a fumble no TD. Quinn 1TD/1Int, Charles 125+ with 2TD’s. Chiefs win an uneccesary nail biter…. 21-17. Go Chiefs!!!
