The Kansas City Chiefs announced today that they have placed CB Jacques Reeves on injured reserve.

Reeves had been suffering from a hamstring injury and did not play last week against the New Orleans Saints.

Reeves was technically a third stringer behind Brandon Flowers and Jalil Brown. When both Flowers and Brown were out with injury, Reeves started and the results were not good.

This leaves the Chiefs with only four CBs on the roster. They have Flowers and Brown on the left side and Stanford Routt and Javier Arenas on the left.

Reeves was limited last week on Wednesday but did not practice on Thursday or Friday. There was never really any indication from the Chiefs that Reeves’ injury was season-ending. The team does seem to like to stash players on IR so it may be, with their lingering injury issues, they didn’t feel they could allow a player like Reeves to eat up a roster spot while dealing with an injury that tends to linger.

The Chiefs now have a roster spot open. It will be interesting to see if they sign someone from the outside or promote one of their practice squad players.
