The Kansas City Chiefs got their first win of the season today, defeating the New Orleans Saints 27-24 in overtime.

Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel took the podium following the game. Here are some of the notes/quotes we were able to jot down live.

“The young men did a tremendous job today.”

“I think this team needed a win and a win like that, in particular.”

“They showed a lot of character and fortitude, being down, what, 18, I believe and then coming back and being able to win the game.”

“Next week is around the corner.”

“That Saints team, they’ve got a lot of pride over there on that side.”

“I did not have any doubt about Jamaal.”

“Every game situation is different and every game plan is different. I think that he (Charles) was doing what he always does when he rushes the football. He can make some guys miss.”

“Justin Houston, Jamaal Charles. You can name several of them who played. In my estimation, this was a team victory.”

“You take the field goal and go into OT or you risk not getting anything out of it and losing the game. … I didn’t want them to come up empty handed.”

“No.” —On whether he considered making a change at QB when it was 24-6 Saints.

“The practice paid off.” —On Lilja moving to center.

“Hudson, they haven’t told me. He got a knee. Hillis got an ankle.”

“McCluster was in a sling.”

Note: DJ cramped up. He’s ok.

“He’s been working hard to try and be consistent and today he was able to be consistent and put points on the board.” —On Ryan Succcop.

“I think we ran the ball well and we played much better defense than we’ve been playing. I think if we can do that then we’ll be in the games.”
