Chiefs Release Junior Hemingway From Practice Squad

According to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star, the Kansas City Chiefs have released WR Junior Hemingway from their eight-man practice squad.

The team has replaced Hemingway with OL Rich Ranglin.

This is interesting considering the team released Ranglin just days ago. It looks as though, upon further review, Scott Pioli decided he wanted more offensive lineman available. The Chiefs currently only have seven lineman on their active roster.

This is a tough break for Hemingway. He was the team’s seventh round draft pick but he was injured fairly early in camp and wasn’t able to make much of an impact in the preseason.

The Chiefs are pretty well set at WR on both the active roster and the practice squad so this move makes sense. I just wonder why Pioli didn’t do things this way to begin with.

Not surprised they swapped out a WR for an OL, but a little surprised it was Hemingway. I figured Newsome was the 3rd WR on the PS, simply because Junior was a draft pick, and because of injury, they really haven’t seen what he can do yet.

I wonder if Junior is still banged up and so they just decided to dump him. Could explain why this move wasn’t made to begin with.

      • Tarkus

Yeah, I assume he’s still banged up a bit. That’s all the more reason why it’s a bit curious they’re giving up on him so soon, without seeing what he brings to the table when healthy. Yeah, they could bring him back later, but now he can be signed to anyone else’s practice squad, and that wouldn’t surprise me.

Ranglin has looked AWFUL! Hopefully we drop him when we find another OL on some other teams PS.

If we sign from someone else’s practice squad, he’d have to go on our 53 man roster.

I don’t think the Chiefs were impressed with Hemingway. Not only was he banged up a lot, but it seemed like from the time they showed up a rookie mini camp that Bellamy and Newsome were outperforming him.
