Chiefs Injury Update: Flowers To Practice
The Kansas City Chiefs begin their preparations for the Atlanta Falcons this week and it looks as though they will do so with CB Brandon Flowers on the field.
Flowers hasn’t practiced since July 31 when he suffered a lingering heel injury. Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star is reporting the Flowers will attempt to practice today.
The bad news coming from Teicher is that linebacker Derrick Johnson will sit out today. Johnson suffered in ankle injury in the preseason finale against the Green Bay Packers.
Also missing practice today will be NT Anthony Toribio, DE Allen Bailey and FS Kendrick Lewis.
Toribio appeared to have a grip on the starting NT sport before falling to an injury in the preseason. Now it looks like rookie first-round pick, Dontari Poe, will get thrown into the deep end of the pool against the Falcons.
I wouldn’t hit the panic button just yet in regards to DJ. Johnson likely needs as much rest as possible while Flowers has missed over a month. It was much more important for Flowers to get on the field today than it was for DJ to rush back before he is ready. Romeo Crennel has been optimistic about Johnson’s status so as long as he makes it back by Wednesday, I think the KC defense will be ok.
Lewis has already been ruled out for Sunday’s opener.
