Kansas City Chiefs vs. Arizona Cardinals: It’s Game Week!

The Kansas City Chiefs have a football game this week against the Arizona Cardinals.

Boy, it sure feels good to say that.

The preseason officially kicked off last night when the New Orleans Saints and the Arizona Cardinals squared off in the Hall of Fame Game. The Saints won the contest 17-10. While the starters didn’t play for very long, Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb did suffer a rib injury so his status this week vs. the Chiefs is certainly in doubt. Kolb’s backup, John Skelton had some nice moments in relief duty, leading the Cards on a TD drive in which he went 4 of 6 for 32 yards.

The Chiefs and Cardinals will hold a joint practice on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. central. The game will kickoff on Friday at 7 p.m..

It will be interesting to see how the Chiefs approach this first preseason game. On one hand, the KC will likely want to take a conservative approach with their stars after 2011’s rash of injuries. On the flip side, head coach Romeo Crennel will want to make sure his team is ready for action come the regular season, especially after seeing how Todd Haley’s preseason plan worked a season ago.

I’d guess that we’ll see the starters for a series or two, after which it will be the Ricky Stanzi and Brady Quinn show.
