The Morning Fix: Chiefs News From Around The Web

For one brief moment, the black and yellow Ottawa jersey draped over Matt Bollig’s chest made him look like he was just another football player in a room full of them. But that moment slid away as his jersey slid to his lap, revealing his white back brace and forcing his teammates and a slew of other supporters to face a tough reality.

Tough for everyone except Bollig, that is. The Braves’ junior quarterback hasn’t stopped believing he can regain movement in his legs since his weight room injury last week occurred.

“I’m going to make it through this,” said Bollig, a high school football standout from Chanute, Kan. “I don’t want to boast or anything, but I’m going to make it through this.”

The country music/southern rock duo of Adam Thomas and Harry Travis are the winners of the inaugural Voice of the Kingdom contest.

Part of the Chiefs 50 years in Kansas City celebration, the Voice of the Kingdom contest invited fans to submit video of themselves singing the National Anthem for a chance to perform the Star-Spangled Banner before the Chiefs-Seahawks game on August 24th.

A pool of candidates from across the country was whittled down to 18 semi-finalists and then to a field of five finalists who Chiefs fans voted for from July 17th-23rd.

More than enough: Per Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star, the Chiefs would like running backs Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis to touch the ball a total of 500 times. Presuming Charles does not lose a step, his current status as a No. 2 running back in fantasy football drafts means owners can get a possible top-ten talent for a discounted price. Though Hillis is sure to vulture some touchdowns, his presence shouldn’t distract from Charles’ potential. In 2010, when Thomas Jones had a near perfect split with Charles, the two backs combined for a total of 534 total touches (receptions and carries). Charles finished the season touching the ball 275 times, racking up 1,935 total yards and eight touchdowns, good for third in scoring among all fantasy football running backs. As was the case in the NFL fantasy football experts league, expect Charles to go off the board in the second round of drafts.
