Chiefs Played In The 16th Best Game Of The 2011 NFL Season

NFL.com is counting down the top 20 games of the 2011 NFL season and the Kansas City Chiefs have made the list for the second time.

Coming in at #16 on the list is the Monday Night Football clash between the Chiefs and Chargers on Halloween. Also called “The Monday Night Miracle” by many, the Chiefs won the game in overtime after a fumbled snap gave them new life late in the 4th quarter.

Here is what NFL.com had to say about the contest:

Why this game is No. 16: Just because a game has a ton of turnovers and penalties doesn’t mean it’s an unenjoyably game to watch. This is the one slot in our Top 20 for the quirkiness of pro football: Twenty-one combined penalties, eight turnovers and a meaty overtime period gave this game the perfect amount of awkwardness and back-and-forth drama to merit its inclusion. It was also perfectly appropriate for Halloween.

The game was a bit on the sloppy side but it will go down as one of my all-time favorite Chiefs games. It joins the Halloween game from 2010, when the Chiefs beat the Bills in overtime as the clock expired as one of my most terrifying Halloweens ever. Thank goodness there will be no Chiefs Halloween game this season. I’m not sure I could take.

This game had it all. The costumes, Baldwin’s TD catch, Rivers fumbling the snap, Cassel’s OT drive and Succop’s game-winning kick. There was also the all-red socks that some of the players wore that garnered them fines from the league for breaking uniform policies. They looked great and it was worth it, especially since it wasn’t my money paying the fines! The cherry on the sundae was the KC secondary sporting scream masks at the end of the game. The Chiefs came into the game with plans to leave winners and they made damn sure it happened.

It was a truly frightening night for Philip Rivers. It was also KC’s second straight victory over the Dolts on Monday Night Football. The rivals will meet again this season in prime time. Let’s hope the Chiefs make it three-for-three.

Mwhu-hahahahahahaha!
