The Morning Fix: Chiefs News From Around The Web

Veteran DE Ropati Pitoitua suffered a calf injury and was held out of practice as well. He joined S Eric Berry (knee), OL Rob Bruggeman (finger), S Kendrick Lewis (shoulder/pectoral), TE Tony Moeaki (knee) and LB Brandon Siler (Achilles) on the sidelines to bring Kansas City’s injury count to 10 players.

In total, 86 of the team’s 88 players were in attendance for Thursday’s practice. WR Dwayne Bowe continues to stay away with an unsigned franchise tender and rookie DL Ethan Johnson was absent for personal reasons.

The Chiefs wrapped up a third OTA session on Thursday and Coach Romeo Crennel approved. “I felt like each unit was starting to develop the camaraderie on their side of the ball, with the offense really pulling for the offense and the defense really started pulling for the defense,” Crennel said. “Overall the guys have paid attention to what’s going on. Is it perfect? Not by a long shot. They all make mistakes.”

Perhaps it’s nothing or even a precautionary act, but injuries (and hopefully the lack of them) is going to be the primary story for the Chiefs offseason through the rest of the summer. Questions will have to be answered about the recovery and rehab of players like Tony Moeaki, Eric Berry and Jamaal Charles among others. Adding names to that list will only further complicate matters and muddy the Chiefs’ chances to contend.

The roster is better than ever in Scott Pioli’s tenure, but a team can only do so much when dealing with injuries. Here’s hoping Allen is not seriously injured since he’s a key component along the offensive front heading into not only 2012 but far beyond.

Former LSU football stars Joseph Addai, Corey Webster and Brandon LaFell joined the family of Travis Daniels to watch the Kansas City Chiefs defensive back graduate with a degree in general studies, including minors in sociology, sports studies and history.

“The LSU family is very close-knit,” Daniels said. “One thing I liked about going to school there is that even though everybody is busy in their own lives and doing their own things, whenever any guy has something going on we do our best to support it.

“Joe and Corey were actually two of the guys pushing me to go back and get my degree every offseason when we’d workout together.”
