Chiefs Visit With Veteran Safety Elam

The Kansas City Chiefs continued their search for veteran safety depth by meeting with former Cowboy, Brown and Jet Abram Elam.

Elam entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Kent State. He is 30 and comes in at 6-0, 207.

Abe started all 16 games for the Cowboys last year. Pro Football Focus graded him at a less than impressive -5.3 overall. He did receive positive marks for his run defense with a +2.2. You just don’t want him dropping into coverage with a -5.8.

I see no reason why the Chiefs shouldn’t snag Elam. He’d be like a younger, more durable Jon McGraw.

KC has nothing but scrubs backing up Berry and Lewis at this point. Whether or not they’ll try rookie CB Menzie at the safety spot remains to be seen. Still, the Chiefs would be wise to add a veteran soon.
