If the Kansas City Chiefs end up having a special season in 2012, we may look back on today, May 11th, 2012, as the day it all started.

Today the new rookies are in Kansas City for their first dose of NFL football. The players the team drafted, plus the 15 undrafted rookies the club signed after the draft, will be at the facility for the first time.

The camp will run Friday through Sunday. Second round pick Jeff Allen has been excised for Saturday’s practice so that he can attend his commencement ceremony. Ditto for Kansas TE Tim Biere on Sunday. The players are allowed to wear helmets but no contact is allowed per league rules.

At the end of the camp, the rookies will attend a luncheon that any Chiefs fan would give their left arm (or at least a couple of fingers) to attend. Here is a from KCChiefs.com of team greats that will attend the luncheon with the rookies from KCChiefs.com:

"Pro Football Hall of Famers Bobby Bell, Len Dawson, Willie Lanier and Jan Stenerud and Emmitt Thomas. Chiefs Hall of Famers Deron Cherry and Will Shields will also be in attendance along with former player and current scout Willie Davis, as well as former player and Chiefs Ambassador Danan Hughes."

The entire team will begin voluntary OTA practices starting May 21 and there will be a mandatory mini-camp for everyone June 12-14.

It begins now.
