According to Josh Looney via Twitter, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed free agent defensive lineman Ropati Pitoitua, formerly of the New York Jets. He will play DE in Kansas City.

Pitoitua is massive at 6-8, 315. He signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2008.

Pitoitua played high school football but did not join the team at Washington State. He spent 2008 on New York’s practice squad before seeing action in eight games in 2009. In 2010, he tore his achilles. He has 22 career tackles and one sack.

In 2011 Pitoitua played over 300 snaps for the Jets. Pro Football Focus graded him at +1.1 overall. He tallied 17 tackles, 15 of which were stops. His strength was in run defense with a +2.5 grade. He was credited with 7 QB pressures.

This looks like a pretty solid pickup. Pitoitua has some nice size and a little bit of experience. He is still fairly young and should be able to come in and compete for a roster spot.
