With the 2012 NFL draft over, ESPN.com’s Mel Kiper and Todd McShay have gone back to living in the basements of their respective parents.
That means the 2013 NFL mock drafts are hitting the internet.
A few days back Kiper released his mock which had the Chiefs selecting from the position of a playoff team. Kiper had KC taking QB Landry Jones.
Not to be outdone, Todd McShay has now released a mock draft that has the Chiefs selecting 19th overall which has the Chiefs will NOT to make the playoffs in 2012.
And he has them selecting QB Landry Jones.
While you’ll be sad to know that McShay doesn’t see the 2012 Chiefs as a playoff team, you’ll be thrilled to know that he doesn’t see ANY AFC West team as a playoff team. He’s got the Raiders selecting 4th, Chargers 16th, Broncos 18th and the Chiefs 19th.
In fact, McShay apparently projects that the NFL will change their rules and allow the NFL eight playoff teams the the AFC only 4. Yep, only the Patriots, Steelers, Ravens and Benglals will make the playoffs. Sorry AFC West and AFC South. Maybe next year.
Kidding aside, McShay put this order together using Matt Williamson’s post draft power rankings. Here is what he had to say on the matter:
This is not meant to be a true projection or represent how we think the first round will actually unfold next April. Rather, it’s simply a look at where teams stand from a broad perspective after the draft, and some big names who could be in play after we finish our initial film study and formulate our first 2013 draft board late in the summer (tape study on 2013 prospects begins next week).
If that confused you, let me translate:
“In other words, here is a mock draft that really isn’t even a mock draft because we didn’t even bother predicting the actual draft order. But we’re calling it a mock draft to try to trick you into buying a useless ESPN Insider article but it is really just a list of teams in players they might draft in our mock draft if this was actually a mock draft which it isn’t. Because this mock draft would be impossible. But it isn’t a mock draft. Just in title. From a broad perspective.”
They don’t call em’ the “World Wide Leader” for nothing folks.
You can see McShay’s entire mock draft, without having to pay a dime, at Walter Football.
So Landry Jones?
