“I didn’t really have a whole lot of expectations. I didn’t really hear anything negatively or positively about the organization,” Boss said recently. “I really didn’t have any friends that I have gotten to know that have played here, so I didn’t really know what to expect.
“But definitely, when I came here it was like, ‘Wow, this is better than I expected. This is exactly what I’m looking for at this stage of my career.’ I wanted to sign right away.”
Chiefs tight end Tony Moeaki missed the 2011 season with torn knee ligaments but expects to be back this year. The Chiefs also signed former New York Giants and Oakland Raiders tight end Kevin Boss this offseason to add depth to the position.
Veteran safety O.J. Atogwe, who played with the Washington Redskins last season, also visited Tuesday with the Chiefs.
Finished 2011 tied for the highest grade in run defense of all inside linebackers. This was helped by racking up 50 defensive stops in the run game (only one player had more and he was on the field for more snaps). What sums up his season was a tremendous four-down goal-line stoppage of the Raiders in Week 7. Johnson also graded in the green in all but four of his games. Does anyone remember when he couldn’t get on the field in the Chiefs’ base package?
