Chiefs Select Jerome Long In 7th Round

The Kansas City Chiefs have selected DT Jerome Long out of San Diego State with their first of two picks in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Long is the fourth lineman drafted by the Chiefs in this draft. He joins first round selection Dontari Poe on the defensive line. Long is 6-4, 290 and likely projects as a DE in the Chiefs’ 3-4 defense.

There isn’t a ton of information out there about Long (as often happens with 7th round picks) but it appears he is a guy who saw his stock rise late. You can find a pretty good story on Long here.

Long is the kind of player Pioli seems to like in the 7th round. He’s reportedly a hard worker that has exceeded expectations. It looks like the Chiefs are going to give him a chance to keep doing so.
