2012 NFL Draft: Romeo Crennel On Day 2
Romeo Crennel sat down with the Kansas City media this morning to recap yesterday’s picks.
Here is a bit of what the Chiefs’ head coach had to say.
On whether Allen will play guard or tackle:
"We’re gonna take a look at a couple different positions, both tackle and guard, to see where he might fit. The young man has been a tackle all his life. Just to say that he’s going to come in and be a guard, I don’t know if I would say that. We’re gonna let him compete and see where he fits."
On the offensive line:
"One of the things we’ve always done, particularly along the offensive line, is play the best five. In trying to acquire guys for the offensive line, we also try to get guys who have flexibility. Either they can be a swing guy, they can be a tackle/guard or a swing guard or a swing tackle. Inside, same thing. Guards that can play center a center that can play guard and then put the best five out there."
On how the team is coming together:
"The biggest thing I see is that I think we’ve elevated the competition at those positions. Basically, along the offensive line, we’ve added quality competition. And then at the nose we’ve added quality competition and you have to bring it in to put it out there on the field to see how it really will impact you because there are no guarantees of whether these guys will be great players or not. Only time will tell that."
On whether or not the Chiefs are still looking for a QB:
"Well, if there’s one we feel can help us, you know, we’ll definitely consider it but we do have a young kid that we took last year that we feel pretty good about and so whoever we look at, we’ll have to…we’ll have to feel good about whoever we look at that he’ll have a chance to compete with Stanzi. Or he has to be better than Stanzi, which, you know, might be tough at this point."
