The NFL Management Council awarded 32 compensatory draft picks to 15 NFL teams on Monday. As expected, the Chiefs were not one of the clubs awarded a compensatory pick for the 2012 NFL Draft.

Compensatory draft picks are awarded through a formula determining the net loss of compensatory free agents from the prior season. Teams losing more (or better) free agents than it acquired in the previous year are eligible for compensatory draft picks.

Chiefs returners failed to take any kickoffs past midfield and were stopped 21 times inside the 20-yard line. Kansas City’s average starting position after a kickoff was the 20.6-yard line.

“We knew, quality of game-wise, it was going to have some impact but we were still committed to doing it,” McKay said.

“I didn’t hear anything different from that – whether we were dealing with the players’ association in a meeting in Indianapolis or dealing with the coaches’ subcommittee – there was no push at all this year by any team or anybody on the committee that we should change the rule because I think we do feel like we’ve moved the needle on the injury side, which was the focus.”

Tebow Time with the Jets will become official at Monday’s press conference, but Montana has already laid down his verdict on the decision to have the two passers in the same rotation.

“Mark is a better player right now and that’s it,” Montana wrote in an email to the New York Daily News. “As long as Mark believes in himself and plays, it’s not an issue. It’s more of an issue for those of you who write, or blog or tweet and all the other methods of delivering content.”
