Just after the news broke that the Kansas City Chiefs had signed RB Peyton Hillis, multiple sources reported that the San Diego Chargers had agreed to a three-year deal with FB Le’Ron McClain.
The Chiefs picked up McClain in free agency last season. Despite an injury to Jamaal Charles, the Chiefs never really gave McClain much of a chance in the running game.
In my opinion, McClain isn’t that big of a loss. I never understood why so many Chiefs fans were so high on him. The only things I remember him doing last season was getting between Matt Cassel and Todd Haley, making their argument look worse than it really was and fumbling a TD and then getting credit for it after one of his teammates recovered it.
Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 20th best FB in the NFL last season out of 29. He receive a grade of -2.9. He received a -4.6 grade in blocking, which was his primary job.
