Carl Nicks Signs With Bucs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed FA guard Carl Nicks, formerly of the Saints.

Nicks was reportedly looking for a ton of money and he got it. Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting the Bucs will pay Nicks $47.5 million contract with $31 million guaranteed. That would make him the highest-paid guard in the NFL, which is what he wanted.

A lot of Chiefs fans were hoping the club would land Nicks but I think it is better he went elsewhere. There is no denying Nicks is a great player but $47 million is an insane amount of money to spend on a guard.

The fact of the matter is, the Chiefs are in much better shape at guard than they are at tackle. The Chiefs not only need a starting RT, they needs some decent backups too. Ryan Lilja was one of KC’s best lineman in 2010 when Jamaal Charles was active and I expect him to return to form in 2012.

For my money, or for Clark Hunt’s rather, the Chiefs need to make sure they spend whatever it takes to get RT Eric Winston.
