The Morning Fix: Chiefs News From Around The Web

by Chiefs
Routt will meet with the Bengals after visiting the Bills and the Chiefs; he spent two days with Kansas City this week. I wouldn’t think the Chiefs are out of the Routt picture because he is visiting another team. Routt, cut by Oakland last week, is in a position of strength. Because free agency starts March 13, the 28-year-old can take his time and make several visits while weighing his options.

The Jackson hire in Cincinnati adds a new wrinkle to Routt’s decision.

As of now, the Pats running back corp without Green-Ellis would look pretty thin. Ridley, along with fellow second-year back Shane Vereen and veteran Danny Woodhead would be it, assuming Kevin Faulk calls it quits at some point.

Which leads us to how much Green-Ellis is worth to the Pats compared to other teams. The Kansas City Chiefs are running a “30 free agents in 30 days” feature, and Green-Ellis is Friday’s player.

Despite finishing 7-9 last year, the Chiefs’ roster is one of the more talented groups throughout the whole league. A slew of injuries to key players held them back in 2011 but those should all return in 2012. With a healthy Jamaal Charles and Tony Moeaki, Manning would have two of the brightest young stars in the NFL to work with. Both players suit his style of play as Moeaki is similar to Dallas Clark and Charles is a threat as a receiver. The Chiefs have a huge amount of cap space so Dwayne Bowe should almost certainly return while Steve Breaston could be brought back to his level of production which he last had playing with Kurt Warner. With a strong offensive line and plenty of ammunition to improve in the off-season, the Chiefs have plenty of reasons to bring in Manning. They also have the perfect head coach to complement Manning as Romeo Crennel has one of the best defensive minds in the NFL.

Unfortunately for him, there’s not a huge market for overmatched young tackles, and that’s what Richardson has shown himself to be. He did start all 16 games for Kansas City for the second straight season, but that says more about K.C.’s lack of line depth than Richardson’s ability. Over the 2011 season, Richardson was flagged for nine penalties, gave up eight sacks and allowed an astronomical 36 quarterback pressures. Any team relying on him to be more than a backup going forward is asking for trouble.
