In today’s edition of The Morning Fix, we have a fascinating article from Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star about the secrecy at Arrowhead under the Scott Pioli regime. The article is a must-read. I will just leave it at that for now.
Today, AA Radio will go live at 2 p.m. CST. As always, you can listen live or download or stream the show later. We’re certainly going to talk about Babb’s article so make sure you tune in.
Until then, here is your Morning Fix!
During his first year, Pioli noticed a candy wrapper in a back stairwell and waited to see how long it took to be picked up. About a week passed, and it remained in the stairwell. He placed the wrapper in an envelope, and during a meeting of department heads, Donovan, then the team’s chief operating officer, brandished the wrapper as evidence of the attention to detail that Chiefs employees had grown to ignore.“A great coaching moment,” Donovan said.
Here’s a list of the players from that Texans team – many of whom had relocated in Kansas City when the franchise moved there – and what they were doing now. It’s an interesting look from a time when professional athletes couldn’t simply rest on their large salaries or signing bonuses as life wore on and athletic talents waned. Please remember that these were their professions twenty years out. Many went on to other jobs and careers.
