Today Is An Exciting Day To Be A Kansas City Chiefs Fan!

by Chiefs

On December 15, 2008. Carl Peterson was handed his walking papers after a ten year career at the helm of the Kansas City Chiefs. An exciting day it was for your Arrowhead Adventurer. Earlier, my beloved Chiefs had just finished playing the coldest home game on record, and after a three hour drive to the stadium by myself (I couldn’t give my extra ticket away), a senseless loss to the Miami Dolphins, and a depressing drive home in the cold, frigid Missouri winter weather, I pondered if this was the day I’d put my fanatic love for the Kansas City Chiefs on the back burner.

So the news that Carl Peterson was finally being replaced gave me renewed hope for the future.

January 23, 2009. Herm Edwards was handed his walking papers as well. Life was looking good!

February 6, 2009 . Todd Haley is announced as the new head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. “Wow,” I thought to myself. “This guy has a Super Bowl appearance under his belt.”

And on a beautiful summer morning in July of 2009, I found out that our team had signed QB Matt Cassel to take the snaps.

At last I felt the pieces were in place. It was only a matter of time that our team would be seeing some postseason games, and in a few years, maybe even a Super Bowl run.

And we lost the first five games of 2009. And 2009 sucked as bad as the previous year.

And I felt the usual hopeless frustration.

In 2010, the Chiefs won their first three games, including the season opener on Monday Night Football against the San Diego Chargers, a game I still look back on as one of the most exciting I’ve attended at Arrowhead. We were the last undefeated team remaining in the NFL before losing at Indianapolis in Week 5. Kansas City went on to win the AFC West for the first time since 2003.

On January 9, 2011 the Kansas City Chiefs played the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs lost the game 30-7 with Matt Cassel passing for 70 yards and 3 interceptions. The only touchdown was a 41-yard touchdown run by Jamaal Charles. The game cost me hundreds of hard earned dollars to attend.

And here we go again…….

2011 wasn’t a great year, and Haley of course was fired. I love the idea of Romeo being at the helm. I have questions about the future of Kyle Orton and Matt Cassel in Kansas City.

Things are looking good again!  All I needed to do was wait. And the vicious cycle begins anew….

And so I have made a decision. I will not live like this anymore! And neither should you.

What if we win a Super Bowl? Look at the Giants. One of the greatest Super Bowl wins in the history of the NFL was followed by the same old same old for them.

New Orleans came back from the devastation of Katrina to win one of the most heartwarming Super Bowl wins ever.

The following year they didn’t exactly set the world on fire.

And most people are hard pressed to name the years these two teams won it all.

The point Addicts, is that the time to enjoy Kansas City Chiefs football is today! As you sit at your desk or while you fiddle with your smart phone! While you’re reading the paper! Now dammit!

It’s never going to get better than today!

Strategize! Mock draft!  Email or call One Arrowhead Drive with your ideas for improvement! Take advantage of the sale K-mart will soon have on Chiefs merchandise!

Review our 2012 opponents for strength or weakness! Pour over Arrowhead Addict like you’re thinking about buying the damn site! Let me, or Patrick or DD or Big Matt or the other staffers know that we are either geniuses or full of crap! Or both!

You get the idea.

I’ve got a pile of Kansas City Chiefs wear that I’ll soon be storing for the season sitting next to my bed. It’s literally the first thing I see when I wake up in the morning. And because of that pile of gear I start the day reminded that the Kansas City Chiefs are the greatest, proudest, bravest NFL team in the world. Arrowhead Addict is the best KC Chiefs fansite on the net! The Kansas City Chiefs cheerleaders are the hottest on the planet! Arrowhead Adventures is the (ok you fill this one in). And hopefully you get the picture. Things might get better. Things might get worse. But the day to enjoy the Kansas City Chiefs isn’t when our players are healthy and on the field in August 2012. Or when we go postseason in January of 2013. Or when we finally reach that Super Bowl that we have been waiting for these forty plus years.

The most exciting day in the history of the Kansas City Chiefs is today!

“Our lives are simply a succession of nows”.

Mary Anne Radmacher

Love all the posts by all real and true Chief's fans. I was there for the Christmas Day game over 40 years ago and long for another game as exciting, only with the score reversed. I just want to remind Clark Hunt of one important fact. As fans we are the true owners of this wonderful and storied franchise. As the owner of record, you are the caretaker. Years from now, someone else will own the franchise, but the great fans in K.C. and everywhere will continue to be the "owners". It is your task to see that the day we have all waited for comes as soon, and as often, as possible. As always, we fans look forward to the upcoming season with unlimited hope. We also hope that both you and Scott Pioli have learned from the mistakes of the past as regards the non-signings and short sightedness of the holes left in the roster. If you can look the fans squarely in their collective eyes and say that you have done your absolute best, and make us believe it, then that is all we can ask.

Great posts by everybody. Here is one for you. Being a Chiefs fan is like being the village idiot. We are just too stupid to know any better, but happy enough to not to want to change! I too turned 63 in December and have been that idiot since their inception in Dallas when Abner Haynes was running wild. Go Chiefs, but please go with a franchise QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the pick me up written like a die hard fan. I always hope things get better rather than worse but when the chips are down Win or lose I love my Chiefs. I can't get behind anybody else.

@kcfanintx Texas is where it all started!

Put the Chiefs in my viens with a needle baby. Love the enthusiasm brother. Keep the spirit alive man. We will get there one day.

If you every have any trouble with an unused ticket again let me know I will even drive.

I am now in my 60's and have been a diehard Chiefs fan since I was 12. That is more than a lifetime (or 2) for most of you but serves to show that "addict" truly describes my allegiance to the Red and Gold! I moved away from KC when I was 18 and for most of my life I have been starved for Chief's news both in season and out. The internet helped a lot, but the last few years of AA (and (AP) have finally given me the fix I need on a regular basis. I can't help but pull up AA every morning to see what be there to feed my addiction. Living now in Southern California I at least have a few stories hit the page as soon as I wake. That being said, I live and die waiting for the key decisions to be made, watching mediocre play and hoping for more. I spend my Sundays at 10am drinking beer (the good part?) and watching from some bar that puts my games on in a remote corner unless they are kicking some Packer butt (also the good part!). There are times I feel that my Chiefs are snakebit, having drafted Todd Blackledge and paid penance ever since. With the season now over for us, I look forward to new coordinators (loved when RAC and Weiss were picked up) to improve the offense and maintain the defense, free agency and hopes of a solid draft (oh, for a chance at a franchise qb). With a little luck and a tweak or two, can we not get back to the glory of 13-3 seasons and hopes of at least one freakin' victory in the playoffs? It can happen, and that is why I am living in the moment, each moment, as a Chiefs fan. I may be running out of time to see my Chief's next Superbowl, but as an "addict", it is in my blood to continue sitting on that barstool waiting for the magic to come again. Living for my Chiefs one day at a time!

Wow! Couldnt have said it better myself. Watching Chiefs football in So Cal! Now it could be worse GR8! Thanks for the post , it made my day AGAIN!

@Gr8scott Wow Gr8scott, similar story to mine. I'm here in Socal too. I was the first in my area to get DirecTV so I could watch Montana and Marcus Allen every week. We'll have to share a 10:00 A.M. beer together sometime. Thanks AA from another long time fan!

@calchiefsfan I miss the days when I had DirecTV, although not the ridiculous price gouging. Another reason for the bar is that my wife is an Eagles fan and another friend is a Saints fan. Most years majority of games coincide so not a 6-7 hour ordeal. We at least have one team left in the hunt for another week!

@Gr8scott I got rid of DirecTV too. Way too much money plus more fun being around a room full of football fans. I'm in Lake Elsinore and normally go to BWW in Corona.

This article made my day! I love football. I personally think it is the greatest sport on Earth. I was born into a hardcore Chiefs loving family. It's in my blood. Even if I wanted to, I don't know how to stop being a Chiefs fan. There are other teams in the NFL that I root for in post season if/when the Chiefs don't make it. This year I am rooting for the Saints or the Giants. (Drew Brees is an amazing person and I wish he was at KC soooo bad) However, I just can NEVER get to the level of intensity or excitement for them as I do when rooting for the Chiefs. I just don't get the same feeling for them. Also, nothing in this world compares to Arrowhead Stadium. I've been fortunate to travel and see a lot of amazing places and Arrowhead is still at the top of my list.

Your comments made mine, Chiefsfan! Comments and support are what keeps me plugging away and making those six hour trips to the greatest NFL stadium on earth.

@Arrowhead Adventurer Six hours! Wow! Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking. I am up in Nebraska, and my commute to Arrowhead is around 4 hours, so it's not terrible (Although, it feels like forever when I drive back from a loss...)

@Chiefsfan7 Springfield mo

I'm in springfield too man. Don't be afraid to let me know if you have an extra ticket again lol. Win or lose there is no better experience than a Chiefs game.

You have to think how far we've come when we go 7-9, miss the playoffs by a field goal, after all the injuries and we all say it's a bad year. Which is actually true. We should have won the division for the second year in a row. But what a difference from the Herm years. We are on the cusp of being a playoff team every year. That's something to get excited about!

chiefs 13 and 3 3 and 13 only real change is the language i use when shouting at my tv

@jimbobjo that's really really funny jimbo :-)

I come from a Die Hard Chiefs family, & have learned that the ups & downs come with that territory, there is no stadium like Arrowhead. There are no better fans than KC Chiefs fans. The Chiefs will forever be apart of me & my family. LET'S GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!

@mizzouboy81 GO CHIEFS !!!!!!

Good...Bad...Up or Down..I will ALWAYS be a Chiefs fan!!! I must say though, I have HOPE for the first time in a looooooooooong time. Maybe one day I will make it to Arrowhead and see them in person! Never give up the dream!

It really does seem like the key elements could be in place for a Superbowl run , Sarah.

@SarahThomas If you don't mind me asking, where do you live Sarah? Every Chiefs fan should be able to attend a game at Arrowhead. Nothing is quite like it.

@Chiefsfan7 @SarahThomas . Good point it is an experience you must have. But watch my posts for updates in which games to see. Some can be disappointing if you can only see one.

Being a die hard chiefs fan is like being an addict you know it's going to turn out bad but you keep coming back for more!!

I like that Soda. Sounds like a girl I dated once too.

Being a die hard chiefs fan is just like being an addict you know it's wrong but you keep coming back for more!!
