After evaluating the performance of his defensive staff, Crennel revealed Thursday that he’s planning to retain the overall structure of Kansas City’s defensive staff for his first season as head coach in 2012.

Crennel also announced his decision to retain defensive play-calling duties while talking with former Chiefs quarterback Rich Gannon on The Sirius XM Blitz radio show.

“The Chiefs did a great job of being physical. They tried to slow the game down as much as possible and contain Rodgers in the pocket as much as possible,” defensive tackle Chris Canty said.

“Rush him as a group with their front four, they rushed him as a group. They did a good job working together. Collectively I think everyone understand the task at hand and responded.”

Emery, director of college scouting for the Kansas City Chiefs, was an area scout with the Bears from 1998-2004. He later became director of college scouting for the Atlanta Falcons from 2004-08, before he was made regional scout for Atlanta’s 2009 draft. He’s spent the past three seasons with Kansas City.
