Romeo Crennel To Be Named Chiefs’ Head Coach, Says Report

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, the Kansas City Chiefs have found their next head coach in Romeo Crennel.

From Schefter, via Twitter:

"Chiefs are planning to retain Romeo Crennel and remove interim tag from his title. Move would be popular in the locker room."

This was expected. I figured GM Scott Pioli would want to wrap up all of his interviews this week so that he could mull things over over the weekend. With this news breaking now from Schefter, I am guessing none of the candidates impressed him too much.

I doubt we’ll hear an official announcement this weekend as the NFL generally frowns upon teams making any major announcements that could take away from the playoffs. I would expect the team to make the move official first thing Monday morning or even very late Sunday night. I say the latter only because I am guessing Pioli wants to hit the ground running with Crennel so the team can put a staff in place. They will in particular look to fill the role of offensive coordinator, assuming Bill Muir retires/is canned/is demoted.
