Mike McCoy Possible Candidate For Chiefs’ Offensive Coordinator Position

by Chiefs

Jason La Canfora of NFL.com is reporting that Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy could be a potential target to land the likely soon to be open offensive coordinator position in Kansas City.

From NFL.com:

The Kansas City Chiefs could pinpoint Denver Broncos Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy as a possible coordinator/coach-in-waiting should they be unable to land Josh McDaniels from St. Louis, sources said. (According to league sources, the Rams would like to retain McDaniels as offensive coordinator to stay with Bradford.) McDaniels would be a candidate in Kansas City if Romeo Crennel is promoted as many expect, and New England coach Bill Belichick also would welcome him back if Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien departs for Penn State or the Kansas City opening himself.

I can buy this. McDaniels might be tough to get. Even if the Rams let him go, the Pats might swipe him away. Then again, if he thinks Scott Pioli plans to make him a head coach once Romeo Crennel retires, if Crennel is named head coach, then KC might be an attractive sport for McDaniels to land.

All of this is interesting but nothing can happen until the Chiefs decide for sure that Crennel is going to be their permanent head coach. I wouldn’t be shocked if we found something out by the end of this week.

[...] Mike McCoy Possible Candidate For Chiefs’ Offensive Coordinator Position [...]

Considering the HC's avaliable for the job there is no reason why we shouldn't have our guy hired and signed within the next couple of weeks. If Pioli knows whats good for him we will have one before the championship games.

It's cart-before-the-horse. Got to put a head coach in place before you can hire an OC. It would likely have disaster written all over it if not done in that order.

Hmmm. Alot of fans hav bashed Josh McDainels. Duz anyone think thats strange how Bill Belichick said he wud want josh back in NE? STL fires the rest of the staff but wants to keep josh. Rumors float that KC wants Josh. but yet SOME of our fans dont want josh. Well one thing is fure sure, josh wud hav alot more weapons in kc than he had in STL & Den. I think wit a new stud NT & 2 new back up safetys, this defense will b able to hold opp teams pts to a min, meaning if chiefs offense can manage 21-24 pts a game they shud win most games. If the chiefs bolster the offense by drafting/signing the right players, Josh can manage 21-24 pts a game, even more, josh and Orton was up on the chiefs 35-0 @ halftime in Den last yr. Didnt Josh hav the broncos on a 5-0 start including beating NE his 1st yr in den?

@MicahStephenson They went 6 - 0 as I recall, but then disappeared off the face of the earth record-wise. Belichick already has a host of players on offense that know what to do and can develop players with consistency. The Chiefs are not so lucky. So all Josh would have to do is reacquaint himself with the NE system. It would be seamless to anyone outside their organization. The Chiefs do not have the same tools as NE or the system to develop them it appears. So the OC here needs to be part mentor, part motivator and a hell of a tactician. As an example of Josh's lack of skill in this department just look at what happened to Sam Bradford. Bradford is a promising QB but, by most accounts, actually regressed this past year. His mechanics got worse as well as his decision making. The Rams' record alone should wave off him coming to KC. Head to head with KC the Rams had fewer TDs than KC (18 to 20); fewer First Downs (267 to 277); fewer third down conversions (64 to 81); lower average yards per pass (5.9 to 6.6); lower average yards per offensive play (4.5 to 4.9). I could go on and on about this. So the reason a lot of people are questioning why Pioli would want McDoofus as OC, other than he is a former member of the Massachusetts Mafia, is because of his performance overall.

Un huh and stl STILL wants to keep him ....in joshes defense wat personel dis they hav in STL on offense. I can only think of 4 names the Center Brown, wrs Simms-Walker and Lloyd, & old butt S.Jackson. Not alot to work wit before the injures started ocuring. Now as far as comparing our players to NE's we got some players. Cassel which he knows how to use, J.charles better than any rb NE's eva had, 1000 yrd wr in bowe, solid guy n breaston, Baldwin(calvin johnson clone), dexter mccluster, Moeaki, u got a few olinemen Albert, Asomoah, & Hudson. I cud look good calling the plays wit those weapons. So i think josh wud work out.

Hmmmm. Ivyey yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyymfetttyyyyyyyyyyyy

I'm cool with this. I had heard Fisher might end up in StL and keep McDaniels, which put O'Brien as a top candidate in Mia and was wondering who we could get. I like that it means we might keep Orton, which I do think is an upgrade from Cassel. And I like coaches that know the AFC West. That's 6/16 games; nice to have.

Are we talking about the very best coach for the Chiefs or a guy Pioli can dominate? While I doubt any of the "name" candidates would consider Hunt or Pioli as bosses, should they not be invited to look over Arrowhead? So it seems more of the same, if it does not fall off the NE tree, no value here. We will continue to pretend we are NE West. Seems a bit of a waste to me.

@tm1946 .....wat do you mean by "a guy Pioli can dominate"? From reading in between the lines, im asuming, you want a head coach that is rebelous or wont go wit the flow (ala Haley), a coach/employee that duznt do wat the boss says, a coach that wont b dominated by wat Hunt/Pioli want to do, instead do wat he wants to do. Please help me understand this reasoning for not wanting a team player and instead a coach that pioli "cant dominate"
