The Kansas City Chiefs have placed QB Matt Cassel on injured reserve, ending his season.

Cassel suffered a fractured hand in the team’s game last week against the Denver Broncos. He had surgery early last week.

Replacing Cassel on the active roster is practice squad receiver Jeremy Horne.

Cassel finished the season with 160 completions in 269 attempts. He threw for 1,713 yards and 10 TD’s vs. 9 interceptions. His completion percentage was 59.5.

Chiefs GM Scott Pioli will now have to ask himself whether he believes Cassel has done enough in his time in KC to return as the starter in 2012.

Tyler Palko is now the starting QB for the Chiefs for the remainder of the season.
