The Kansas City Chiefs and the San Diego Chargers will be squaring off in just a few hours so that means it is time for the Arrowhead Addict staff to go on the record with our predictions for tonight’s game.
Let’s do it.
Chiefs 27, Chargers 24
I have a weird feeling Jackie Battle is going to go bananas tonight and run all over the Chargers.
Come on! You can’t pick against the Zombie Chiefs at Arrowhead on Halloween!
Chiefs 28, Chargers 21
The Chiefs should be able to run and run well against the nuts in Bolts. If this happens then the Chiefs will control the time of possession. The challenge in this one will likely come when the Chiefs get to the Red Zone. Jon Baldwin may be able to help out there. He does. Chiefs win big but, the nuts in Bolts make a late run.
Chiefs 27, Chargers 21
Before the season started, this game stood out as one of the most highly anticipated and crucially important games of the year. Then, a couple weeks in, it was almost nauseating to think that the Chiefs were going to be served up to the Chargers in front of a national television audience in prime time on Halloween. Now, it is again one of the most anticipated and important games of the year.
Chiefs 34, Chargers 13
Special Teams sets the tone early by giving the Chiefs great field position (all night) and allowing little to the Chargers in return. Jackie Battle & LeRon McClain pound successfully away at the middle giving us 143 yds on the ground, Breaston & Baldwin gives us our downfield chunks. Down by 17 early in the 3rd quarter, Rivers panics, DJ jumps the short route and returns it for six, the 2nd of 3 picks for the Chiefs tonight. Zombie Cassel and our Red Zone offense awaken before a 75,000+ amped-up Chiefs fans on Halloween Night.
Chiefs 20, Chargers 17
I myself awake from the dead to find that the Chiefs win a close one on a late FG from Ryan Succop that puts the final nail in the coffin for the Chargers. The KC Defense and “Roar of the Crowd” wins it for the Zombie Chiefs.
Chiefs 27, Chargers 20
Arrowhead is rocking and so is Matt Cassel. Cassel plays like he did in the second half earlier this season (minus the game ending INT) and hooks up with Bowe and Breaston often. Jackie Battle runs the ball well enough to keep the defense honest. On defense, Tamba Hali ends his minor sack drought in a big way with a two sack game and DJ continues playing well and even picks off a Phyllis Rivers pass.
Chiefs 24, Chargers 14
I am sticking with my prediction from my post earlier in the weekend. Todd Haley has this team believing they can accomplish something great this year. Much like the confidence the Chiefs had last year after they beat up on the Chargers week one on Monday Night Football. Brandon Flowers gets his third interception in two weeks, as the defense has Philip Rivers throwing temper tantrums by the third quarter. The offense comes out passing in this game and Matt Cassel will have two first half touchdowns. The crowd will be rocking and the stadium will be shaking!! Go Chiefs!!!
Being Halloween it doesn’t take long before the tipping point is breached and full scale undead mayhem falls upon San Diego. After the first quarter, Zombie Hali tears off Philip Rivers arm and Arrowhead erupts as Zombie Hali and the rest of the Undead-D swarm in on the smell of fresh blood. No coming back for the Chargers after Rivers is cruelly disassembled on national television.
Chiefs win 34-17
The home team has won 22 of the last 31 matchups. The Chiefs have won 11 of the last 16 home games with Rivers and his never hot Chargers. We won this meeting last year, I was there to cheer on my beloved Chiefs, and will be this year. Cold weather would improve our odds, but screw the weather
Chiefs win 31 to 21.
Look, I’d like to have something witty and insightful to say here, but I don’t. Chiefs beat the Chargers at Arrowhead on Halloween. That’s how it’s done.
