Other than the weeks and months between the end of the Super Bowl and the beginning of the preseason (with the exception of free agency and the draft of course) this is my least favorite week to be a Kansas City Chiefs fan.
The dreaded “Bye Week.”
Ugh. Who would have ever though that this would be a good idea? In 1990, the NFL introduced these monstrosities for reasons still unknown. Thankfully, we still have other football to watch.
So how can you get through the “Bye Week Blues?” I suggest, for today anyway, becoming a Cleveland Browns Fan.
Most in the KC area will be getting an early game on CBS of Jacksonville vs. Pittsburgh, however if you have NFL Sunday Ticket or you are going to be watching some games at a bar, tuning in to watch the Raiders play the Browns should make for some good fun.
For one, you can scout the Raiders, KC’s next opponent. Also, you have plenty of reasons to cheer for Cleveland. Should the Browns escape the Black Hole with a victory, the Raiders will drop to 3-3 on the season. That means that if KC can take out the Silver and Black next week, the Chiefs will move into second place in the AFC West with a 3-3 record while the Raiders drop to 3-4.
Hopefully the Browns will beat up the Oakland defense by pounding away with RB Peyton Hillis. That could make things easier on Jackie Battle and a rested Chiefs offensive line come next week.
So while the Chiefs aren’t playing today, start Raider Week early by rooting for the Cleveland Browns.
