Chiefs Sign Former Patriot OT Steve Maneri

by Chiefs

Maneri (left) next to either a homeless man or Patriot's LT Matt Light.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss the Chiefs have signed OT Steve Maneri. Maneri was a former college TE that the Patriots converted to tackle. He spent most of last season on New England’s practice squad. According to his twitter feed TE Anthony Becht was released to make room for Maneri. It’s hard to imagine that KC would head into the Buffalo game with only two TEs on the active roster so the Chiefs may not be done adjusting the roster. Stay tuned………….

Here’s a link to the only story I could find on Maneri.

@KC MikeG@jgunz26 Proving my point. Every, EVERY player has upside, flexibility, and youth UNTIL they prove they do not. Every year every team drafts kids who they tell are the next coming and a sure HOFer from the first round to the seventh. Oh so much potential. To me Maneri is full of potential, and that just means he has not done a thing or he would not be available to the Chiefs. Still not a bad move, after all Becht was not much.

@tm1946@jgunz26 No - not every young player has upside or flexiblity - many young guys hit the wall and are never heard from again and others aren't flexible in that they don't play multiple positions which increases their value and reduces the number of roster spots which can help with depth at other positions. I will give you props for pointing out that all players under 26 bring youth. You can never compare a young player with potential to a player of Waters status until they play out their career but when the vet declines you can replace the strength of that position with youth. Arrows going different directions in Haley speak!

@KC MikeG@jgunz26Dead on but you threw up a really big soft ball, didn't you? Would not every player on all 32 NFL teams under the age of 26 bring youth, upside and flexibility? A bit generic isn't it? Doubt many will impact any where near what Waters did in his career.

@jgunz26 Try again. Waters was done last year and he will not start for NE. Maneri brings youth, upside and flexibility.

@tm1946@kcchiefs1369 @kc Probably not this year but if we make the playoffs anything can happen. Look at the wild card and IR heavy World Champion Packers.

@kcchiefs1369 @kc Tony should come home, not just to retire but a last season. Mikey thinks we are one TE away from the superbowl?

so we upgraded the patriots OL and downgraded ours, makes sense!?

@KC MikeG i would love having the best tight end ever to plsy the game back but i'll settle for him coming home to retire his jersey. we love you tony, awaiting your return to kc....

@DaMi It tells them they need to step it up and learn the Chief's Way if they want to play!

@kcchiefs1369 Atlanta has had him long enough w/o a SB! Send him home so he can help us win one!

Here's another article on Maneri called "For Steve Maneri, Patriots worth the weight"... http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/football/patriots/view.bg?articleid=1359326

I'm interested to see if Haley is looking at him as a TE or a T... he can add to the trick plays as a catching T who claims eligible... we ran that one in HS as a goaling play lol right up there with the Vrabel catch!

Since he was a TE in college, maybe he becomes our tight end / tackle swing guy! Always a role that's tough to fill.

@DaMi I don't think Haley is losing much sleep over if he hurts the feelings of a couple undrafted players. Yes they have showed some promise, but neither of them are owed anything. They apparently see something in this kid. If he's an upgrade he'll stick around and if he's not they'll cut him loose and sign somebody else. It does appear from that article I linked that the Patriots were high on him.

If he plays tackle what does that say to the young guys in waiting (Mims & Harris)? Is he the backup to Albertson @ LT moving Gaithers to RT? Interesting move Haley.

That's what happens when you try to wear 88, you get cut... respect bro. No one should wear 88 ever again. Shout out to Tony G.
