Report: Matt Cassel Has Rib Injury And Could Miss Week One

by Chiefs

So I wish I had better news for you this evening, but the KC Star is reporting that Chiefs QB Matt Cassel has some kind of rib injury that could put his playing status in week one in doubt. Adam Teicher says that coach Todd Haley has even told Tyler Palko “You’d better be ready to play Sunday.” Now nothing is certain at this point so its not time to panic just yet, but this definitely doesn’t make Chiefs fans that were already upset about an 0-4 preseason and losing TE Tony Moeaki for the season feel any better. On the bright side, last season Cassel showed his ability to bounce back quickly after having his appendix out so I wouldn’t count him out just yet.

Update: It appears that 610′s Nick Wright actually broke the story but the Star is also now reporting the same thing.

Big Jim - I'm not into calling fellow Chiefs fans name. You can hang on Haley's knobs all you want it's a free Chiefs nation just don't use your teeth. I believe in our player, we have the talent to dominate the West. I don't believe in our head coach and his decisions. His pre-season decisions, his offensive play calling, his predictable on-side kicks. Chiefs fans are the most intelligent fan in the league, so please don't just comment with name-calling.

@tm1946 I read the NFL injury report. I'm talking about overall injuries. No teams don't have 9 hurt quarterback. You're awesome because you're always SOOOOOO grumpy

@tm1946 Sorry "Berry" not "Beery"

@tm1946 On Beery when he went for the ball and was as usual stupidly flagged, this time for leading with his helmet, he was shaken up, left the field and did not return to the game. May be nothing (I hope). But no word on how he is since. Bad things comes in threes has me worried.

@TrappedInDonkeyland That's what my gut says too.

Perhaps I missed it before, but noted from the mothership today. Lilja beyond an injury issue also was dealing with "a new addition to the family". I assume this means other than getting a new dog. Congrats Lilja! Heal up guy, we need ya.

Several comments on Berry, what happened? Also Lilja is "suffering" what does that mean?

@TrappedInDonkeyland Where did you find your info? I was not aware 28 teams had injuries to the starting QB. I know about the slow recovery of Manning with the colts but who are the other 27 teams? Once again injuries are part of football, but it was not me that told you sunshine boys that the Chiefs were all about conditioning and getting fit for the season's opener. It is also being reported Lilja is suffering but no one on the roster is assigned to back him up (I am figuring Hudson), Oh yeah, go chiefs, like that is going to make everything right.

@KC MikeG @TrappedInDonkeyland My god you people love setting up straw men.

Oh No! You have exposed Pioli's master plan. Goes to show you that you cannot keep something this big under wraps for very long. Even the Baldwin altercation was just smoke & mirrors to throw us off the track. Probably won't see any of Haley's staff. Herm will bring his own people. Oops I let the cat out of the bag. Sorry!

@TrappedInDonkeyland Facts don't matter! Besides Haley promised us NO injuries so he is a complete failure, all is lost, might as well lay down and write off this season so we can get Andrew Luck! Wonder if Pioli will keep Zorn on when he fires Haley's entire staff?

@Big Jim Don't be so rough on them Jim - I'm pretty sure it was Haley who let the GB's NT go unblocked so he could crush Cassel. All part of Haley's plan I'm sure! I have lost all trust in him as he promised us that his plan guaranteed NO injuries!! I bet Pioli will fire him before opening day.

@Big Jim Me too - strange. Hope you're right on Berry and Cassel!

BTW.. Cassel is going to play. He's a tough dude

Wait.. There are THREE teams with less injuries than us. There are many teams with triple our injuries or more. I understand Haley's approach is unorthodox but it makes sense after this unique off season. Football players get injured, it's part of the game. Put the anti Haley pitchforks down please

Well there you have it fans. Proof positive that morons run in pairs!

Take it away Kelly Clarkson!Because of HaleyTony will never stray to close to the sideline!Because of Haley Played pre-season on the safe side,So our starters don't get hurt!Because of Haley I find it hard to trustNot only him, but scott pioli tooBecause of Haley, i am afra-ay-ay-id

WHAT! bravo to Haley (EGO). It was his idiotic coaching scheme not to give the starters adequate playing time in the pre-season and play them too long in the final pre-season game. When 3rd and 4th string guys are throwing their bodies around trying to make a play, b/c of him Tony and Matt got hurt.

Even if there's the slightest possibility that Cassel can't start... Haley is going to play it this way not only for Palko's sake but, to mess with Chan Gailey so he can't know who to prep for. It's actually something Gailey would do. Bravo to coach Haley.

I don't doubt Haley told Palko to be ready, but I am sure he just wanting to have his head right just in case. Way too early to make that call. I am betting Cassel will be fine. Also I think there is no news on Berry because there is no news. Go Chiefs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My site went haywire for several hours. Anyone else have trouble. Had to be the site because everything else acted just fine.

@laddiemorse oooo that was evil!

So... Stanzi might be the back-up to start the season after all. hehe

Noooo! Not the Palko!!! I'm still concerned about Berry going out hurt in that game and not a peep on it since. I know it won't happen, but I'd rather we just throw Stanzi in and let him have a go.

This whole off/preseason has been like a huge slap in the cosmic balls... I'm going to start needing xanax if anything else happens...
