The A.A. Arrowhead Tailgate Mix (2011 Remix)

by Chiefs

When I think of things that make American culture awesome and what sort of things will most likely be our lasting legacies to history, I don’t really think about Democracy, Full Faith and Credit, the 2nd Amendment, Capitalism, technological advances, the end of the Cold War, or anything like that. After NFL Football, I think our legacy to the ages is our music.

Whether we’re talking Blues, Bluegrass, Soul, Pop, Jazz, Tejana, Rock, Country, Rap, Hip Hop, Protest, Alternative, Americana, or Kenny G, you name it, our music is our highest artform. It is the ultimate expression of everything that embodies our greatness, our ideas, our feelings, and our experience. Deny it not.

I continue after the continue.

Long story short, I’ve decided to take a somewhat lighter approach this week by revisiting an enjoyable and popular theme we undertook way back in 2008 – namely, creating the perfect Arrowhead Tailgate Mix. The results of that earlier endeavor can be found here. However, just like our readership has since then, music changes and expands and so must our ideas about the perfect tailgate mix.

I’ll personally be updating my own mix with at least a couple of songs. Gel by Collective Soul (don’t know how that got missed on our first go around) and Townes Van Zandt’s classic Mr. Mudd And Mr. Goldas covered by Steve Earle (because winning at football requires a few ice cold gambles now and then).

Without further ado, I invite AA Nation to let your collective creative juices flow and give us your list of say, 17 songs or so (we’ll stick with the standard CD format because compiling an IPod playlist would probably make this project a little unwieldy methinks), that are/would be your must listens when you tailgate at Arrowhead. Bonus points if you can connect your selections in some intelligent way to football, or even better, to the Chiefs. Ridicule and scorn promised for anything by Lady Gaga, Cher, or Madonna – possibly the same for Muse (just kidding, sort of).

My son-in-law is the lead singer-songwriter for the rock group "8STOPS7" and they have a new collection of songs just being released. The first song is called Sting and there's a free download you can get at http://www.8stops7.com/news/ He's got the vocal chords of a f'-ing Greek God.. .check it out! Here's my list: 1. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by tears For Fears 2. "You Get What You Give" by The New Radicals 3. "The Weight" by the Beatles- the lead guitar at the end may be the most under rated lead guitar in the history of rock. "And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love, you make!" 4. "Hotel California" by The Eagles- it has to get an Oscar for the best constructed set of words in a rocks song… some say it's about addiction but I'm addicted to this song. I always gets me pumped. 5. "Question Everything" by 8STOPS7- best abusive father/forgiveness/angst song ever. Rail against "the man"! 6. "My Back Pages" (Dylan) by The Byrds- Dylan? "uh… dun… no… wha… ee's… terrin… ta… sayyy"… but it stirs my soul! 7. "Clocks" by Coldplay- groove city 8. "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2- works after a loss too 9. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana- this is the perfect song to give the Jack Black snake eye on… turn your head slightly, raise one eyebrow, create some tension in your eyes, nod slowly and barely snarl as you look at some fans who have come to visit from another team. They'll think you're nuts… which ought to be pretty cool. That will work even better if you follow that with… 10.Let's Go Crazy by Prince- get up on the hood of your car and use a broom as a mic stand. It'll allow everyone see a different side of you. 11. "Roundabout" by Yes 12. "Vox Humana" and "No Looking Back" by Kenny Loggins ( for me… best two back-to-back songs to ever begin an album). Pure energy. 13. "The Joker" by Steve Miller- "I really love your peaches. Want to shake your tree." 14. "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba- "I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never going to keep me down"… got to love it! 15. "Dick in a Box" by Justin Timberlake- there's just no better time than a football game to share meat with your friends. 16. No Such Thing by John Mayer- "I am invincible, I am invincible, I am invincible, as long as I'm alive." Feel gud song of the decade. 17… including my son-in-law's song, Sting!

@Arowhead_Addict Paddy, I didn't see "War Chant" by the FSU Marching Chiefs on your list. What gives?

1. Kansas City - Muddy Waters 2. Beware of Darkness - George Harrison 3. Good Vibrations- The Beach Boys 4. All Along The Watchtower - Jimmy Hendrix 5. Back in Black - AC/DC 6. Paradise By The Dashboard Light - Meatloaf 7. We Will Rock You - Queen 8. The Fisherman - The Young Dubliners 9. Walk This Way Aerosmith w/ Run DMC 10. I Wanna Be Sedated - The Ramones 11. Kansas City Shuffle - J Ralph 12. The Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin 13. Mustang Sally - Wilson Pickett version 14. Real American - Hulk Hogan theme song (gets me pumped up to this day) 15. Dream On - Aerosmith 16. Long Cool Woman - Hollies 17. Enter Sandman - Metallica

@Arrowhead Adventurer Randy, if I were to go Irish-American hooligan style, my choice would be "Jump Around" by House of Pain . . . Get up, pack it in, let me begin, I came to win . . . you know?

But I thought Colquitt was from Knoxville, Tennessee, not Boston??

@Arrowhead Adventurer TO FIND MY LEG!!!

I would start my list with "shipping out to boston" by the dropkick murphys!
