The Chiefs Almost Traded Jamaal Charles

It give me the creeps just thinking about it.

Back in 2009, before they really knew what they had in Jamaal Charles, the Kansas City Chiefs tried to trade the RB for a third-round draft pick, according to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star.

Teicher recently spoke with former Redskins GM Vinny Cerrato. According to Teicher, Cerrato told him that he called the Chiefs and offered them a fourth-round pick for Charles in 2009. He claims Scott Pioli refused and countered, asking for a third-rounder pick. Cerrato then backed off.

Thank.

God.

It just goes to show even Scott Pioli, who is largely believed to be one of the league’s better talent evaluators, can get it wrong. If he’d known then what he had in Charles, he would have never considered trading him.
