There seems to be a lot of chatter in these here parts about what all is wrong (and right) with the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line and how to make it better. We’ve all heard ‘em, they generally go something like this:

Branden Albert will never win us a Superbowl at LT; he should be moved to . . .

We need a major upgrade at RT, Barry Richardson shoved a coach.

Even at 74 years old, 110 lb Casey Weigmann continues to play phenomenally well. He anchors our OL dammit!

Don’t dare touch Ryan Lilja, he’s from here and more importantly, he went to K-State!

Brian Waters play has slipped, he’s just getting by on reputation.

Okay, perhaps I exagerated a tad on the matters of Casey Weigmann’s diminutive stature and charter membership to AARP, but are all or any of these statements really valid? I’ll do a little review on all this right after the jump.

One of the little reported items during the lockout talk has been the change in the way the Chiefs view Dexter McCluster. Gone is Dexter McCluster, OW (Offensive Weapon). Say hello to Dexter McCluster, RB. Frankly, the Merlin crystal ball is fuzzy on this move. For some reason, the Chiefs have decided that they will get more out of McCluster as a RB than they would moving him around, playing WR and RB. I can see some value in this. McCluster looked effective as a RB last year. Jamaal Charles, as wonderful as he is, can not handle a full load at running back. Thomas Jones is aging and may be close to done. McCluster does have the ability to spell Charles, but function as a similar type of player. Agree or not, this is the move. The problem is that this does open a hole at slot receiver. Currently, the Chiefs do not have a logical candidate on the roster to fill that spot. The best move available is to fill this with a free agent. What receiver possesses the good hands, quickness, elusiveness and toughness to function in the slot? My choice after the jump.

In 2010, the Kansas City Chiefs busted out a motto that they would print on the back of t-shirts and even on the wall near where they enter the stadium.

The motto was “Chiefs Will.”

This was a big change from the team’s 2009 motto “God We’re Terrible.”

Well, ok, maybe the team didn’t really have an official motto in 2009 but the above was most certainly the unofficial motto.

The thing about mottos, however, is that they can get stale. Al Davis has been staggering around muttering “Just Win Baby” for years now and it obviously isn’t having any impact on the guys playing for the Raiders.

Now let me be clear that I don’t think mottos can help football teams win games, but I do think they can be effective for individual groups. I think the key is that the motto has to be original, fresh and it has to fit the character of the guys on the team. “Just Win Baby” might have been right for a certain group of Raiders players but times have changed. I think a team has to adjust their motto yearly if necessary, to reflect the attitude of that team.

For instance, some new mottos the Raiders might want to consider might be:

“Just Plea Deal, Baby”

“Not-Guilty”

“Plead The 5th”

Or even…

“Those Guns/Drugs/Steroids/Battered Women Aren’t Mine, I’m Just Holding Them For A Friend”

But I digress. It is up to the Raiders and their lawyers to come up with their own motto.

But what about the Chiefs?
