Arrowhead Adventures! Brodie Croyle Is Still Here?

by Chiefs

An Easygoing Backup

Brodie Croyle……Once the great hope for one of the worst Kansas City  Chiefs teams in history, now….well now I had to look up the Kansas City Roster to make sure he is still listed. And he is….

I saw every single home game Brodie played in. Every one. In person. Thankfully, from the upper level in those days, the only thing that kept this Arrowhead Adventurer from running on the field and screaming.

Come to think of it, I guess I have seen every single televised Kansas City Chiefs game this young man participated in too.

And out of all those games, I can only remember a single one in which Brodie played like a true team leader.

Just one….

The 2009 season opener vs Baltimore.

Brodie completed 16 of 24 passes for 177 yards and two….yes two (are these the only two he ever scored?) touchdowns  while Matt Cassel recovered from an injury that scared the hell out of me in my newly aquired lower level seats during a preseason game of that year.

All those games I saw Brodie  play in, (and the games he didn’t) showed me that Brody has one of the strongest throwing arms in the NFL today.

I’ve seen Brodie  throw pass after pass straight as a string, many bouncing of an astonished recievers hands, and accurate too.

Sadly, I’ve seen him throw what seems like just as many into the opposing defenses astonished arms as well. Passes Brody could force in college, cannot be forced in the good old NFL.

And here we are….

It’s for sure (in my opinion) that Matt Cassel is the future of Kansas City. But what about a backup? Last year Brodie proved (to me anyway) that he can’t even play that position when he made a brief appearance (what the hell was it in San Diego?) and was destroyed.

And so with out further delay, I say it’s time for Mr Croyle and his hot wife to move on.

If anyone would be interested in him…..If not, then his NFL career should be over.

I think  we are wasting precious roster space and salary money on Croyle.

How about you?

Very interesting post Tom thank you. Interesting link. When I was on the train to Soldier Field , a guy next to me indicated he had attended college during the Croyle years at Alabama. He said we could expect "flashes of brilliance along with injury after injury". That seems to be what we got. stop me if you've heard this.....

I dont think the crappy players around him made a difference. I think the crappy Chiefs ability to groom a QB is the real problem. I love the chiefs. I bleed red and gold. I really like riky Stanzi. Probably more than I have ever liked Croyle. But if they develope him it will be the first QB in the history of either franchise texans/Chiefs that they have developed. Croyle came out of Alabama as one of that programs elite passers even with injuries he broke records. If the Chiefs cant develope that QB into a guy that can win one game for you, well I am not sure they could have developed Peyton Manning. Now the Chiefs are a whole new deal in this regime. They have a guy on staff that has groomed some QB's in the NFL. Both rookies and vets. I really like Riky's chances. I feel bad for Croyle though, adn I wont be surprised to see him go to another franchise and develope. Kinda like Rich did. He was a journeyman came here lit it up for 11 games lost his spot to an idiot and played in a SB in Oakland. Croyle should go to NE or Indy. He would have a great QB to learn from and some time to learn. THose guys are getting to an age where the #2 guy will get some reps.

I watched Brodie start a preseason game in Chicago, soldier field is awesome, Brodie was not. Tyler Thigpen saved the day in the second half we won.

Very interesting to see your current thoughts on Brodie, Patrick. As for me, well I just dont know what to think as far as being given a chance. The list of great players on crappy teams is a long list indeed. But the thing is, guys like Archie Manning, Barry Sanders. No doubts about their ability while they played. I have serious doubts about Brodies ability to get it done.

I really like Croyle. I love the way he fought back from that terrible knee injury and got to camp and won back a job when everyone thought he was a goner. But he just has never managed to get it done. I'm not saying he can't. I'm not saying that in a better situation he might have flourished. But it just can't be in Kansas City. He has had way too many opportunities and failed. He's never won a start. I think Croyle has turned in to a little bit of a head case and I think he has lost his confidence. He had a couple of decent games. He was playing OK against the Pats before he got hurt. He had a nice game against the Colts a couple of years ago. But he couldn't never close the deal. His other games have been mostly miserable, filled with INT's and horrible injuries. I think the Chiefs like Palko as a backup project and they just drafted Stanzi. Croyle is done for.

I would like to see Brodie given a real chance to develope. No QB's ever develope in KC. DO you think is is on the QB's and the guy picking them or the coaches working with them. Seriously since Todd Blackledge we havent seen a QB develope here. THe good ones all started somewhere else, lenny, Joe, TrInt, Rich, and lesser good Elvis, Steve and steve. Brodie has what it takes, he just wasnt drafted by the Patriots, steelers, or the team that used to be the 49ers. One more year under our new QB guru would be good. I know CW was a qb guru, but it's clear he mailed it in last year. Pioli made him an offer he could not refuse and he took it. In his book he made it clear he was all about the money. He got fired from his only dream job in Southbend,

I don't think Weis phoned it in. Cassel definitely improved. How much of that was due to Weis I do not know. I feel like Brodie got kind of a raw deal being drafted on to Harm's terrible team but sometimes you have to make your own luck. Croyle is like 0-11 as a starter. He's a nice guy but I don't think he is an NFL QB.
