Todd Haley Denies Knowing About Coaches Association Brief

Last week the NFL Coaches Association filed a brief with the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals declaring their support of the players and their effort to lift the lockout imposed by the NFL owners.

Since the brief was filed, however, many coaching staffs are coming out and letting it be known that they did not know about or support the brief.

As of yesterday the Saints, Jaguars, Cowboys, Rams, and Texans staffs had all backed away from the brief. I wondered how long it would be before the Chiefs did the same.

It took about 24 hours.

Speaking with Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star, Haley made it clear that the brief did not represent the coaching staff of the Kansas City Chiefs.

“In talking to all of our guys, there was a great deal of surprise this was filed on their behalf,” Haley said. “Nobody was aware that it was going to happen. This was not on behalf of the coaches.”

Now that we’ve got all the “facts” out of the way, let me just say that all these coaches coming out against the brief are probably lying their asses off. I am sure that after that brief was filed, the owners started leaning awfully hard on the coaches to denounce it. I don’t believe for a minute that Haley didn’t really know about the brief and I sure as hell don’t believe he doesn’t agree with it. Coaches are taking pay cuts because of this whole mess which I am sure is just splendid for them. On top of that, all their hard work is getting screwed up and their entire offseason programs have been thrown out of whack. Nobody, except the owners, actually wants a lockout.

Yeah, the coaches didn’t know that the Coaches Association was filing a brief with the courts. *Wink.

Or maybe they just conveniently forgot to read their memos.
