Chiefs Interested In Hawaii OT Laupepa Letuli

News continues to trickle out about what undrafted free agents the Kansas City Chiefs are interested in signing should the stupid NFL lockout ever come to a merciful end.

The next player I am hearing about is Hawaii OT Laupepa Letuli.

According to staradvertiser.com, the Chiefs sent Letuli and email during the draft telling him that they would sign him should he go undrafted.

"Offensive lineman Laupepa Letuli shares Silva’s uncertainty. Early Saturday, the day the NFL conducted the final four rounds of the seven-round draft, several teams contacted Letuli. In one e-mail, the Kansas City Chiefs indicated they would sign Letuli to a free-agent contract if he were not drafted. Now, Letuli said, “It’s up in the air.”"

More after the jump.

Here is National Football Post’s Wes Bunting on Letuli:

"“A thickly built offensive tackle who initially exhibits pretty good bend in his lower half and is set and ready to punch on the edge. Keeps his hands up and doesn’t waste much motion into contact. However, needs to do a better job moving his feet, has a tendency to stop his feet and lunge into blocks and can be easily slipped toward the corner. Now, he does display good power once he gets his hands on you. Works hard to stay on blocks and can push defenders past the play, but consistently loses a step laterally when asked to mirror."

Letuli wasn’t really projected to go drafted but the Chiefs must like his upside as a project and potential depth at the tackle position.

The Chiefs don’t have enough guys with cool hair so I am all for this signing. Hopefully the Chiefs can snag him.Plus we haven’t had a guy on the team with such a cool name since Webster Slaughter.
