Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft: Round 3 Results

by Chiefs

With the 86th pick in the 2011 Chiefs Ultimate Mock Draft, AA readers select Edmund Gates, Wide Receiver, Abilene Christian.

Gates beat out the other options provided by taking 45% of the reader vote. Passed up in this round were John Moffitt, C/G Wisconsin (39%), Danny Watkins, G, Baylor (9%) and James Carpenter, OT, Alabama (7%).

With the selection of Gates, the Chiefs 2011 Draft Class now looks like this:

Official Reader Picks:

Round 1: Phil Taylor, Nose Tackle, Baylor (Andrew)

Round 2: Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA (Andrew)

Round 3: Edmund Gates, WR, Abilene Christian (Andrew)

Our other Mockers have to be getting jealous. Andrew Crocker is 3 for 3 in this exercise so far. That being said, there are still plenty of picks left for the others to get their guys selected.

We’ll have Round 4 soon but what do you think of the draft so far?

Taylor will be a bust in my opinion and these are his weaknesses. Pioli shouldn't touch this guy    • Weight, conditioning and stamina are problematic    • Not very fast, quick, agile or explosive    • Doesn't always play with proper leverage    • Not real mobile and lacks great range    • Is awfully limited as a pass rusher    • Questionable instincts and awareness    • Might have some durability issues    • Character concerns after off-the-field trouble

Dave, Interesting laundry list of concerns enumerated here, what are the character issues?

I agree that Ayers shouldn't go in the first like many "experts" are predicting, but I really don't see him making it to our second round pick. He has a ton of talent and potential and someone will jump on that. Besides, I've read several scouting reports on Ayers that have me thinking he's not a Pioli type player. Here are some of his weaknesses from draftcountdown.com -Effort against the run leaves something to be desired -An inconsistant motor and seemingly lacks intensity They're always talking about how they want hard workers and guys who love "playing the game". The more I read about Ayers the less he sounds like a fit for our team. Not to mention the whole "OLB isn't that big of a need" movement that Paddy is starting.

What can I say, I have my finger on the pulse of AA.

I think it's trending very need based with big reaches in the first and third rounds. Ayers is a great pick in the second round. Gates is a Long way away from being productive in the N.F.L and 3rd round to me is much to early
