Vrabel Reportedly Arrested For Stealing Eight Beers

by Chiefs

Various outlets are reporting that Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel was arrested for allegedly taking eight beers from a casino eatery/deli without paying for him.

This account was confirmed by KMBC.com.

Jason La Canfora of NFL.com has reported that the matter involved a beer tab and how many beers should have been on it.

The two reports don’t really make any sense to me. the KMBC report makes it sound like Vrabel was in a deli/eater in the casino and tried to sneak out with the beer without paying for it. La Canfora’s report almost makes it sound like he was in a bar with a tab. I suppose it is possible that this casino keeps a tab in it’s eatery but the whole thing is just too hard to figure out without having specific details.

Vrabel apparently demonstrated his many intangibles by cooperating throughout the arrest/investigation and he posted his own $600 bail.

Vrabel released a statement that we brought you earlier.

The Kansas City Chiefs have also released a statement:

“We are aware of the reports regarding Mike Vrabel, but we are not permitted to have contact with Mike at this time. We understand that Mike has communicated publicly that the matter is a misunderstanding for which he takes full responsibility. We hope it is resolved for Mike in a positive way.”

The whole thing just sounds weird. Misunderstanding or not, Vrabel put himself in kind of sticky situation here. He is due to represent the players in court on Wednesday and here he is hanging out in a casino all night drinking beer. Let’s not forget that the issue Vrabel is going to court for is to attempt to lift the NFL lockout to provide the players relief from future financial difficulties that they will encounter should the lockout continue.

Going on an all night gambling binge and getting arresting for swiping beer, whether you meant to or not, is not going to send a good message to the fans or the courts. Never mind that fact that the union leadership has been telling the players they represent to be careful with their money for months in case they needed to ride out a lockout. Now, one of their own representatives has been out gambling, just days before the trail.

Sheesh.

I'm 'bout the biggest COWBOYS fan most of my friends know, so I've heard my share of hard knocks. Having said that, I don't believe this should impact the opinion any worthy CHIEFS fan would have of Mr. Vrabel. After all 'is he not human?', let the first fan without sin or some sort of vice cast the first stone. Don't let the negative attitude or opinion towards Mr. Vrabel turn into a witch hunt (as the NFL Owners would like). He is an intelligent professional and has given alot to make your team a contender again! TRUST IN THE PLAYERS!!!

just goes to show you why players need new contracts they cant on their sallarys of millions affor their beer

You'd think he could at least afford a 6er of Old Style or something.

Paddy, Are you serious? Do really believe that just because Vrabel goes out and gambles at a casino until 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning means he has serious character flaws and thus should not participate in the negotiations? If you've never gone out and gambled all night well good for you but I don't think that you can say that those who do are somehow immoral. Anybody that's ever spent any time in Vegas knows quite well that day and night there are essentially indistinguishable. I'd also say it's very normal, if not plain American, for buddies to get together and drink and gamble until all hours of the morning. If that doesn't happen in your world, fine but that doesn't mean it's not okay. Also your statement that he was out "all night drinking beer" makes it sound like he was drunk off his ass. I haven't read anything anywhere that supports that and even if he was that's his personal business. I guess all I'm saying here is hey let's not blow this all out of proportion and make it into something more than what it really is, okay?

Sigh. DD I think you are blowing my article out of proportion. I merely say that Vrabel made a bad decision here. There is nothing wrong with hanging out at a casino and drinking beer. I'm drinking a beer this very minute and it is 11 AM on a Tuesday and I am at work. OK that isn't true but you get my point. I am not casting stones at Vrabel. I simply pointed out that he got himself in a sticky situation. There is nothing wrong with going to a casino but perhaps gambling wasn't the best thing for him to be doing during a lockout. Since Vrabel is in a leadership position for the union, he is in a unique position. The union is telling players the best thing for them was to decertify and go to court. It is telling them that they should be saving their money so they can survive a lockout. Now here, we have one of their representative being a bit foolish with his money just two days before he is set to represent them in a trial. So yes, I think Vrabel used very poor judgement, not by going out to a casino and drinking all night but by going out to a casino and drinking all night NOW.

Innocent until proven guilty.

Absolutely. Even if he gets fined/convicted for 6-8 beers, how does that effect the Chiefs.....Oh, yeah, I forgot the "right 53". Mr Pioli you may get hoisted by your own poitard.

I am glad my life isn't under the microscope like NFL players. I just feel bad for Murphy and his boner pills and Vrable's obvious mistake/misunderstanding displayed on blogs and NFL.com. I don't think he did this on purpose. I think the charges will be dropped soon.

wowwwwwwww....now studebaker will probably do it to. because he's still learning from him and his "vrabels"

Perhaps he should seriously consider passing his responsibility for the lockout mess on to someone else, if just for looks.

You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried. Sheesh is right.
