Report: Chiefs To Hold Workout With Central Florida OT Jah Reid

According to Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly, the Kansas City Chiefs have scheduled a private workout with Central Florida OT Jah Reid.

Reid stands at 6-7 and weighed in at 327 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine. NFL Draft Scout currently lists him as a 7th round pick that could also go undrafted.

I would say that Chiefs Nation is still split on whether or not Barry Richardson can be the team’s long term answer at RT. I think the Chiefs like Richardson and while he may not be great, he is certainly playing well enough to be given another year. Remember, the Chiefs cut Richardson early in 2009 and ended up bringing him back due to injuries. Richardson served as a backup to Ryan O’Callaghan for the rest of the 2009 season. O’Callaghan was injured early in the 2010 preseason and Richardson started in his place the rest of the season. Richardson has shown improvement for the last couple of years and I think the Chiefs will likely give him another go-round.

Reid is projected to go at the very end of the draft, if he is drafted at all, so it isn’t likely the Chiefs see him as potential starting material. My guess is they want to check him out because they are hoping to add some depth at the tackle position later in the draft.

Here is what Sideline Scouting had to say about Reid:

"Positives: Ideal size with good length and reasonably long arms… Very solid knee bend… Very solid short area lateral movement and slide… While he looks a little clumsy he generally plays with good balance and re-sets reasonably well… Reasonably good position blocker, takes good angles and does a nice job walling-off defenders"

"Negatives: Lacks good lateral range… Gets a little too high in his stance… Overextends and lunges to reach the edge… Slow to redirecting… Not real pretty and struggles to stay in front of defenders but he usually gets the job done"

Sideline Scouting seems to think Reid is a RT prospect only. Check out their full scouting report here. They do an excellent job.

What do you think Addicts? Are the Chiefs in good shape with Richardson and O’Callaghan or should they look for depth late in the draft?
