Report: Chiefs To Work Out TE Ryan Taylor Wednesday

According to the National Football Post, the Kansas City Chiefs plan to hold a private work out with former North Carolina TE Ryan Taylor.

What you didn’t think a year would go by without Scott Pioli drafting a TE, did you? You may remember I predicted this might happen a couple of weeks ago when I released my first Chiefs seven round mock draft. I had the Chiefs taking TE/FB Peston Dial out of Alabama. Here is what I said about Dial:

It is back to the SEC for the final pick in my mock. Dial is pretty much average across the board as a blocker and a pass catcher. He had a good week at the Senior Bowl and since we know Pioli loves TE’s and blockers, he might take a chance on bridging this kid to camp. He is a likable kid and a solid leaders so the Chiefs might look at him as a developmental project as a blocking TE and special teams player.

Looks like I may have been on to something. Maybe. More after the jump.

Taylor sort of fits the same profile as Dial. He is a TE/FB prospect with a lot of versatility. He was a special teams captain for North Carolina and he can also play FB, HB and he even played a little linebacker.

Taylor has had some injury concerns with his knee but you can see his obvious appeal to the Chiefs. He is projected as a 7th round/UNFA and so the Chiefs might be looking for some value here. While the team does have a solid TE in Tony Moeaki, they could use someone on the other side to focus solely on blocking. If a guy like Ryan would be an upgrade over Lenny Pope and he can play special teams, I’d say he’s worth a 7th round pick.

What do you think Addicts? Could Ryan Taylor spell the end of the Jake O’Connel era?
