A reminder to vote for Danielle! She is tied 50-50 with her opponent so we can really make a difference in putting her over the top. Plus you really can win some great prizes doing this.

You may remember earlier this week I told you that I am coaching one of Captain Morgan’s Morganettes for this year’s Captain Moran BracketMaster Challenge. Daniel from Kansas City is Arrowhead Addict and FanSided’s official Morganette!

Danielle is trying to beat out 31 other Morganettes from around the country in a NCAA March Madness-style tournament. You can fill out your own bracket (making sure to vote for Danielle) for a chance to win really cool prizes.

Here are some details on the competition:

* Make all of your picks down to the winner and then submit your bracket.
* Submit a bracket in one or more rounds. A MAXIMUM of 1 completed bracket per user per round is allowed. You can enter for a chance to win once per round and your bracket starts over fresh at the beginning of every round.
* The closer your picks are to the popular vote, the better your chances are of winning!
* Scores and picks on brackets you’ve submitted in earlier rounds DO NOT affect your score or picks in future brackets. You start each round with a new bracket from scratch based on the winners from the previous round for more chances to WIN!

The prizes for this thing are really cool but to have a chance to win the grand prize you have to enter in the first round, which ends March 2nd.

So make sure you head over to the website and fill out your bracket now and support the hometown girl!

Video of Danielle after the jump.

We’ve reached doomsday week in the NFL CBA negotiations and this labor Armageddon threatens our continued enjoyment and obsession of all things Kansas City Chiefs football.

I’m mad. This whole thing sucks. I run a Chiefs website. We have a very specific way we do things around here and the labor situation has thrown everything out of whack. Normally we’d be in full free agency mode, talking about any and all players the Chiefs could possibly pursue to fill holes before the draft. These discussions are always a lot of fun and they bring a lot of new voices and opinions to the boards.

Unfortunately, the whole billionaires arguing with millionaires over money has changed all of that. It isn’t just AA that is getting effected either. People are actually losing their jobs over this stuff. Belt tightening has been happening around the NFL in anticipation of a potential work stoppage and unfortunately that has meant teams have gotten rid of some employees that probably didn’t deserve it. Keep in mind that it isn’t like the NFL players and owners aren’t making money. They’re making it by the truckload. They just want more.

How is it fair that some administrative assistant making 35K a year should lose their job because Jerry Jones wants an extra billion bucks?

The answer is that it isn’t fair. All sorts of folks that have nothing to do with the NFL are going to lose out because of this mess.

Remember when the Chiefs signed Kendrell Bell? I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. It seemed like such a great move. And the fan base, naturally, was psyched*. Unfortunately, as so often happens in sports, things didn’t go as planned. Bell had never fully recovered from a season-ending shoulder injury suffered with the Steelers in 2004. 2005 showed us a shell of a man, unable to make plays or even get to them. He was a total non-factor. It was unfortunate, but it was obvious: Bell was washed up at 25.

*Check out the official Kendrell Bell website. Still up-and-running. “The hardest hitter in the league is now the hardest hitter on the web!” I got a good laugh out of that. I also voted in the online poll. The question was “do you think the Chiefs made good moves in preparation for the 2009 season?” I voted no. There are now three votes for no and one for yes, which the site has broken down to 74.4% no and 25.6% yes. Presumably there is a .6% margin of error. Also, why does this site have a poll about the 2009 Chiefs when Bell’s last year with the team was 2007? If it was just a graveyard that would be one thing, but someone was still updating it two years after he left? Some really weird stuff going on in that site. I put it in my favorites, and will be visiting once weekly, preferably on the sabbath. If someone is still checking the site’s stat counter I want them to know I’m there.

And then a funny thing happened. Bell was brought back for another year. Rather than admit their mistake, the Chiefs embraced it. They started talking about unleashing him in 2006. He was referred to as a pass-rush specialist despite getting only one sack in 2005. Kendrell Bell wasn’t the problem, he was the solution.

Of course that isn’t how it worked out. Bell was just as bad in 2006. Hardly surprising considering, you know, he still had the same DNA and everything. But we went through the motions. An entire second season full of painful-to-watch starts (and one more sack). Finally, mercifully, another injury endEd Bell‘s career in 2007. The Chiefs finally had a way to sweep their horrendous mistake under the rug without having to admit they were wrong. The perfect crime. Bell was promptly executed in the dungeons below Arrowhead.

How is this relevant? Well, I assume you’ve read the title. Thom Jones will be back in 2011. And, dig this gang: he’s going to be even better than he was in 2010! The rest of the league is officially on notice.
