After Matt Cassel, Jamaal Charles, Brian Waters and Dwayne Bowe got nominated to this year’s NFL Pro Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs defense finally got their due when OLB Tamba Hali and S Eric Berry were named as replacements for Troy Polamalu and James Harrison.

With the Pro Bowl now being played the week before the Super Bowl instead of after, qualifying players on the championship teams have to bow out in order to play in the big game. Thus when the Steelers won the AFC Championship last night, two Kansas City Chiefs were next in line.

For Hali, he gets the Pro Bowl birth many thought he deserved the first time around. Tamba was second in the NFL in sacks this season with 14.5 sacks. He also added 52 tackles and 4 forced fumbles for his best season as a pro.

For Berry, he shows he is already living up to the lofty expectations the Chiefs had for them when they drafted him 5th overall on last years draft. Berry turned in 92 tackles, 4 interceptions,1 forced fumble, 2 sacks and a touchdown in his first year as a pro. Certainly not too shabby and good enough to get him into the Pro Bowl.

The Chiefs now have 6 players heading to Hawaii for next weekends game. Not a bad turnaround after the team sent no players to last year’s game.

Congratulations to Eric and Tamba. Well done.
