Before she made Super Bowl history, before the game even existed, Norma Hunt had to prove her worthiness. She had to try out.
Back then, she was Norma Lynn Knobel, Richardson High School history teacher. Wooing her was Lamar Hunt , American Football League founder and son of one of the world’s richest men.
“That’s going to allow us to do a lot more,” Okoye said. Specifically, he said the foundation, which tries to reach at-risk and underprivileged kids through free sports clinics, will be able to bring back a Christmas event that brings local kids together with police officers, firefighters and members of the armed forces.
“We haven’t done that in a few years, but we’ll be able to bring it back,” Okoye said.
“You have to be strong and tough and hard-nosed, which I think comes from our kind of area,” said Red Land’s Mike Cox, a three-year fullback with the Kansas City Chiefs. “That’s the kind of people we are.
“You have to be mentally tough. You have to be able to do the dirty work no one else wants to do without getting the glory.”
