“That was always our goal in Kansas City, to one day present Mr. Hunt that trophy,” Richardson said in a telephone interview. “Just to know that I knew this man, I had a chance to work for Mr. Hunt and how great the Hunt family was to me and to my family. … For me personally, this game carries the opportunity to play in the Super Bowl, but, also to be able to hoist that trophy that you’ve worked for all these years.”
“That’s going to allow us to do a lot more,” Okoye said. Specifically, he said the foundation, which tries to reach at-risk and underprivileged kids through free sports clinics, will be able to bring back a Christmas event that brings local kids together with police officers, firefighters and members of the armed forces.
“We haven’t done that in a few years, but we’ll be able to bring it back,” Okoye said.
“You have to be strong and tough and hard-nosed, which I think comes from our kind of area,” said Red Land’s Mike Cox, a three-year fullback with the Kansas City Chiefs. “That’s the kind of people we are.
“You have to be mentally tough. You have to be able to do the dirty work no one else wants to do without getting the glory.”
