Former Chiefs Offensive Coordinator Al Saunders Hired By The Raiders

The Kansas City Chiefs don’t seem to be in a hurry to hire an offensive coordinator but meanwhile, the Oakland Raiders have hired a former Chiefs coach in Al Saunders.

You may remember Saunders as the coordinator of the high flying KC offenses under then head coach Dick Vermeil. When Vermeil retired, many were hoping Saunders would take over as head coach, however, the Chiefs decided to hire Herm Edwards instead and Saunder went to the Washington Redskins to coordinate there.

Oops.

More after the jump.

I’m not sure how Saunders would have worked out as a head coach but he probably couldn’t have done worse than Herm but I digress.

Anyway, Saunders eventually found his way to Baltimore where he was working as an offensive assistant. The Oakland Raiders came calling this offseason and offered Saunders their offensive coordinator position. Saunders must have really wanted to get back into coordinating because that is the only reason I think he could, in his right mind, want to work for the Jokeland Faiders.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is a good hire for the Raiders though don’t expect Oakland to emulate the great Chiefs offense of the early 2000’s. Raiders head coach Hue Jackson is expected to call the plays and let’s face it, Jason Campbell is no Trent Green.

Still Saunders is a veteran coach and it certainly won’t hurt Oakland to have one more sane person joining the Oakland nut house.

What do you think Addicts? How much will Saunders help the Faiders?
