Report: Chargers Targeting Asomugha

Kansas City Chiefs fans were likely thrilled when they heard Raiders shutdown CB Namdi Asomugha was going to become a free agent, however having Asomugha go from one division contender to another may not be exactly what they had in mind.

ESPN.com is reporting that the San Diego Chargers are planning to target Asomugha if and when free agency begins. Landing Asamugha would make an already talented and formidable Chargers team, well, more talented and formidable.

The silver lining here is that there is going to be a ton of competition for Asomugha’s services. He will be one of the most sought after free agents in NFL history so with guys like Dan Snyder and heck, even Al Davis, still floating around out there, the asking price for Asomugha could likely go to high for San Diego’s liking.

As for the Chiefs, I doubt they make a play for Asomugha. They already have Brandon Flowers, Brandon Carr and Javier Arenas. Keeping Flowers and Asomugha for any extended amount of time would tie a ton of money up in the CB position.

That being said if Scott Pioli wants to pursue Asomugha, he’d have my fill support. =)
