Earlier today we told you that potential Chiefs offensive coordinator candidate Josh McDaniels was being getting interest from the San Fransisco 49ers for their vacant head coaching position but a recent report by ESPN.com claims McDaniels isn’t interested.
Mike Sando is reporting via an unnamed source that McDaniels is not interested in the 49ers job.
If the report is true it is extremely telling. The fact that McDaniels isn’t even interested in interviewing for the 49ers position would seem to indicate that he is indeed interested in taking another offensive coordinator position. Doing so would likely enable McDaniles to improve his damaged reputation enough that he could become a more attractive candidate for a head coaching job more to his liking. The time away from being the man in charge might also give McDaniels a chance to reflect on what went wrong in Denver.
It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs peruse McDaniels to replace Charlie Weis. Despite his unpopularity in Kansas City, the former Denver choice could be an excellent fit if he can get along with Todd Haley.
