Arrowhead Adventures: Chiefs vs Rams

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs roasted the St. Louis Rams Sunday! And your Arrowhead Addict made it back alive! No small feat considering the fights in the stands, the congestive traffic, the Everest-steep seating sections, and of course the mind numbingly quiet overall atmosphere that makes one wonder how many Rams fans have chosen the easy way out by taking a dive over the rail onto the concrete concourse below.

Don’t get me wrong. As a lifelong Missouri resident, I love St Louis and St Louis sports. The problem is I just never thought of the St Louis Rams as a Missouri team. The Cardinals left for Arizona, St. Louis football ended, and never returned.

As I stared at the half empty stands, 50% or more of which held red-shirted patrons, I had a sneaky suspicion plenty of St Louis residents felt the same way.

It had been  a stressful journey. Much longer than my usual trek to Arrowhead, and as we pulled into the covered parking garage, not exactly suited for open fires, I realized how much the St. Louis fans were missing. During the long cold walk to the Casino tunnel that led to the stadium, I saw one lonely Chiefs fan roasting a wiener on a small hibachi, smack in the middle of a parking lot that held about twenty cars. Chiefs fans truly will tailgate anywhere. I had to smile.

Rams fans are quite accommodating to the visiting team fans! As long as they’re winning at least. When the Chiefs started to drop the hammer, well the language directed at the red and gold fans in our section got a little salty. As the game turned steadily in KC’s favor, well the thing to do apparently if your a St. Louis Rams fan is fight! Fight with the Chiefs fans, fight with the Rams fans, fight fight fight!

Care to casually chat about current NFL events with your neighbor? No problem! The Kansas City visitor to St. Louis will find the quite atmosphere provided by the Edward Jones dome quite accommodating.  Unless you decide to start the good old Chiefs chant with your buds who made the trip too! You won’t be able to hear yourself think as the music is conveniently cranked up five times the previous level to stifle your efforts.

On a more serious note, I was very proud of our Chiefs, especially my favorite player, Matt Cassel . What an effort! And just when we needed it.

As far at the playoff, I think we are gonna make it!  But first we have to get past the Titans, your Arrowhead Adventurer will be in attendance as usual and I’m looking forward to a great game and a great time in the best NFL stadium in the world.  See you then!
