The Morning Fix: Go, Brodie, Go Edition!

Morning Addicts. The news broke last night that Matt Cassel is indeed out today. It is time to rally around our boy Brodie Croyle. Start sending him good vibes.

Here is your Morning Fix!

In 12 games, Charles has run for a team-leading 1,137 yards, which also ranks third in the league. With four games remaining, he already has the seventh-highest single season rushing total in the Chiefs’ history and his per-carry average of 6.25 yards tops the NFL.

The team decided to spend the night in Kansas City, Mo., where its flight from New Jersey had been diverted because of a blizzard that shut down Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Pat Hanlon, the Giants’ vice president of communications, revealed the team’s plans via Twitter.

“When you’re back farther like that,” Coach Todd Haley said, “you’re not getting balls knocked down, your offensive line loves you because they don’t have to be perfect, and it increases your margin for error.”

- Their record will rise to 9-4. The Chargers will fall to 6-7 with three games left to play, meaning that 9-7 would be the best record they could finish the season with. If San Diego wins their last three games while the Chiefs lose their last three, both teams will finish 9-7, but the Chiefs will win the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Tamba Hali doesn’t do interviews, or hasn’t for a long time. He prefers to remain quiet. It’s not that he doesn’t enjoy discussing things that are important to him. To Hali, the Chiefs’ 27-year-old linebacker, hard work and silence are deep-rooted, and he learned two decades ago that speaking can have consequences.

Remember, it took three years backing up in New England, one starting, and another 27 games in Kansas City for Cassel to reach this point. He has improved his footwork and his confidence, all the while Croyle mostly quarterbacked the scout team.

Scott Mitchell, who played under Dan Marino for two years, described a backup quarterback’s life “like watching the U.S. borders for a Soviet missile attack. There are a lot of days you’re not getting much action.”
