Kendrick Lewis Downgraded vs. Broncos

facebooktwitterreddit

Safety Kendrick Lewis saw his status for today’s game against the Denver Broncos downgraded Saturday from probable to questionable.

The news was first reported by Bob Gretz.

Lewis was originally listed as probable when the Chiefs released their injury report on Friday so the change is not good news for the Chiefs. A downgrade at this point means Lewis will probably be inactive for today’s game.

How important is Lewis to the Chiefs defense? Well as Joel Thorman from Arrowhead Pride pointed out yesterday, the Chiefs at 7-1 when Lewis is in the lineup and 0-3 without him. If may just be a coincidence but with a team that likes to throw as much as Denver coming to town, I would rather have Lewis’ youth and speed on the field.

Thankfully the Chiefs will have a veteran safety net in place in Jon McGraw. While McGraw may not have all the tools athletically as Lewis, he is a smart veteran leader and he is unlikely to make any major mental errors that could lead to a deep Denver TD.

Unfortunately, the Lewis news also means we are likely to get a healthy dose of Donald Washington today. Washington was absolutely atrocious when the Chiefs played the Broncos in Denver.

What do you think Addicts? How important is Kendrick Lewis to KC’s defensive success?
